Cobb in high fire-risk areas. A no-no?

Yes, I know I am by default a Cadacian (borrowing my parents' caravan and kit which includes a Cadac) but I was tempted to get my own Cobb for the summer holidays.

But I noticed on a thread on UKCS that BBQs are banned in areas like the south of France because of the risk of forest fires, and the Cobb would come into this category.

Anyone had experience of this?

I read that thread too Chippy.

A Cobb AND a Cadac??? A recipe for camp cooking conflict surely?

Nothing helpful to add on the BBQ ban sorry.

Btw you will be welcomed into the Cobbers (Cobberanians?) with open arms when you defect.

As well as summer trip, I have a beach-side cottage booked for October half-term, so plenty of outdoor culinary opportunities. I was seduced by the idea of a Cobb all of my own, but now, not so much.

mm deffo not so much if you can't use them where they ban bbqs [bugger]

I loved the suggestion about poking a length of orange pipe under the Cobb to suggest a gas supply Grin.

But more concerned with the gendarmes clapping me in irons and hauling me off to the clink Shock

lol

I have read enough threads now on THE LAW regarding speedos for men in pools that I would assume that any prohibited cobbery would be pounced on pronto.

Well, DH has been taking a pair of budgie-smugglers to France for the last 10 years and they are still in the Peacocks bag (no expense spared!) withe tags on!

snoooooooooort @ budgie smugglers.

How has he managed to get away with it? I thought the French were vigilant on such matters.

Chippy, I fantasise about the gendarmes clapping me in irons and hauling me off to the clink! Grin

it would be mad to ban them though

they dont get hot on or near the ground... you can pick them up and carry them & move them while they are 'on'

DuplicitousBitch · 07/03/2011 14:35

they should be banned, purely as baking cakes and making roast dinners while camping is against nature

Slubberdegullion · 07/03/2011 15:29

Oh DB you are denying yourself so many camping pleasures.

What could be MORE natural than eating a roasted haunch of meat in a field.

Cake, yeah not so much, but still.

Caaaaaaake

From a user review on Amazon of the Cobb:
"We went camping this year in France, used it for most of our cooking and were actually allowed to use the Cobb where other barbecues had been banned on the campsites." Smile

ChippyMinton · 09/03/2011 17:49

thanks snowgirl, that sounds promising.
