Hi
Sorry complete novice here, but looking for advice. We're a family of happy campers, and have been to France with the Trailer tent several times..My question is am I mental to even consider two weeks camping in the Vendee in August when (touch wood) I'll be seven months preggers. We have three kids who will be soooo dissapointed if they don't get to go, but I really can't decide whether I'm being namby pamby for worrying, orrr if I'm a complete head case for even thinking about it. Answers on a postcard please

Hi, I dont do camping, tried it once and that was enough!!
however my friends do it all the time and a good friend of mine spent 2 wks camping a month b4 she was due. At the time i told her she was crazy but oh well she went anyway and had a lovely time!

I camped at 7months and it was fine, I just had to make sure my bed was really padded. And have somewhere to go at night as i needed a wee every hour! Dh had to do alot more than normal (eg chasing toddler) but it was fine.

I was in the uk and within 2hrs of g

Sorry

I was within 2 hours of home should anything go wrong.

If you are seasoned campers then I dint see why not I you arenhaving a healthy pregnancy.

Congratulations btw :)

I went camping at 33 weeks, or it may of been 34 weeks. It was ok, made sure i had a good quality air bed.

Thanks, all sounds very positive, i think i was expecting people to think I was an irresponsible loon for even considering it. Hubby fully prepared to do more than his fair share, so that's ok, and we've been to the site before so feel quite safe (ish). Just have to get round the rather tricksy issue of him putting the tent up by himself. HE JUST DOESN'T GET IT!!!!!! Never been so close to taking up smoking as the last time we attempted it, in a dark field at midnight somewhere in Northern France

I couldn't get out of helping set the tent up Grin

bigflipflop · 04/03/2011 21:14

wouldn't be able to help sadly, just sit by and bark orders! (wink)

Did it last september...camped when 7 months+ with dd.
Did not sleep well although that was largely due to ds2 and his wrigglyness.
Otherwise was fine.

Probably would be worth getting one of those long pillows for pregnant women in case your bed is not as comfy as your bed at home.

bigflipflop · 06/03/2011 18:31

do you know what? that's a bloody marvelous idea. I have to say the discomfort factor is my biggest concern, that and how the hell my husband will get the tent up without my considerable brawn Smile

I went to V festival at 7 months pregnant...I know it's not 2 weeks but I bet your campsite will be a lot nicer than a muddy festival. I had a ball and the only issue was on the last night as my heals hurt from standing in wellies and dancing about for 4 days. Go and have fun and don't forget your hospital notes or to tell your insurance company as I think some don't cover for pregnancy abroad although we have the reciprocal agreement anyway. Have fun.

I did it at 8 months and 1 week. DD was born the day after. The only mistake was it was a really hot summer and didn't bother wearing pj's or a nightie but had to take one for the tent. I just grabbed one but unfortunately it would not go over my bump so had to borrow my friends one.

I feel so much more confident about the whole thing now after all your positive experiences. I have to admit to thinking folk would just roll their eyes and tut!
We'll go for it as the kids would be so dissapointed if we cancelled, and I'll make sure I have a nice comfy nest to wallow in Grin
