Blondie, Mark Ronson, house of pain

Mr tumble, sooty and sweep!

Am I mad to consider it with a 2.8Yo and 8 mths old?!! I'm going to have to go next year instead aren't I....

Anyone else festival planning? Where are you off to?

Just looked at the website and it does look amazing, and I'm not really a festival person. I might even be able to persuade DH as he loves the Wonderstuff - and they have Zingzillas for me :)

DottyDot · 24/02/2011 17:04

I'm seriously considering here

have never Festival-ed before but am feeling adventurous and am trying to persuade dp - otherwise it's just me and ds's... Grin

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 24/02/2011 17:14

Looks good :) there is one in Devon possibly that had good reviews, I can't remember the name though...

I think im a year too early. Ds is not the best behaved 2year old going (he is a bolter...in the last 3 weeks we have now got him to hold hands and behave by roads, but a festival with all that excitement?!!)

I love the idea of The Gruffalo live...they are so creative with the family festivals :)

Beautiful Days in Devon is fabulous.

We've been taking dd to festivals since she was 11 weeks old. We love it. Never been to Bestival though.

silverfrog · 24/02/2011 17:20

oooh, we are camp Bestivalling this year.

went last year, with dd1 (then 5, with severe ASD) and dd2 (then 3)

it is absolutely fab.

lovely lovely setting - really laid back, lots of space.
Mr Tumble was fantastic, and did a meet and greet as well as his acts on stage - he spent a couple of minutes chatting with the dds while we had our their picture taken.

The Gruffalo was brilliant. the live version s (necessarily) quite different form the book, but all the important bits are there, with added humour and music - what's not to like?

we are really looking forward ot going again - can't wait!

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 24/02/2011 17:23

Showy-thank you, the name had completely escaped me :)

Hmm may be if I start intensive toddler training it will be possible!

WOMAD in Wiltshire is very family friendly, loads of workshops etc for the children. Beautiful surroundings too as it's held at a stately home (Charlton Park).

EnvyEnvyEnvy
I love the Wonderstuff And Blondie
And ds4 adores Mr Tumble. We are Irish and it's so funny when he corrects me on my pronunciation of Mr Tumble and says it back to me in a perfect English accent!Grin

However I have just discovered I am up the duff again so don't think I will be up to festivals this year.Sad I tend to be pukey and don't fancy puking into portaloos!

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 25/02/2011 01:35

Envy indeed, being pg and vomiting in a festival portaloo really would turn you green!

OP posts:
silverfrog · 25/02/2011 10:06

but agree, probably still not the best when pregnant

(I sympathise - I don't do pregnancy well, either)

chipmonkey · 25/02/2011 11:56

But could you imagine being the one who had to use the loo after the pregnant puker? Wouldn't want to inflict that on anyone!

silverfrog · 25/02/2011 11:59

me either Grin

but seriusly, a cup of sawdust would sort it, except everyone would think you were going for a poo (honestly, does anyone care?!)

they were eco portaloos - no manky chemicals, very nice and roomy, and no toilet aromas at all.

was fantastic (especially because there was never a queue)

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 25/02/2011 12:38

Given that a queue and stench free portaloo is the festival holy grail, I really wouldn't think twice about using one!

But there again, I don't wear boden Wink

Grin

neither do I, but my children do Grin

I hope the same loos are there this year, and that the majority of people have the same aversion.

they even had enough room (and were clean enough) to take 2 small children in with you, with none of that falling over each other and grabbing said small children to stop them playing in puddles of chemi-piss malarkey.

a bit drafty, I will admit, but still, the best portaloos I have ever used...

chimchar · 25/02/2011 20:55

i'm all booked and paid up for bestival. dead excited.... my first ever festival. dh is a old skool over the wall style glastonbury goer, but this is our first time together...got our 3 dc tagging along too. ds, age 4 is very excited about camp "vestibul". Grin

any tips from experienced bestivalers?

BellaBearisWideAwake · 25/02/2011 21:02

I was there last year and it was fab. And I remember those loos-but IME there were queues of kids who were quite happy to be seen carrying in a cup of sawdust every time they went in, just for the novelty, I'm sure they can't have been pooing that much! Grin

Mr Tumble was great, the bit where a whole field sang the hello song together will stay with me forever, I almost cried.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 26/02/2011 21:52

We're going with 2xdds who will be 3.9 and 2.2. We have never festivalled before but really looking forward to it. Made the mistake of looking at the forums this morning & am now panicing about wagons & ear defenders! Not sure we're going to see anything ourselves, we'll be spending all the time at the kids stuff, I think dd1 will faint if she gets to meet Mr Tumble. If I don't see anyone else though I must see Blondie! Is one band too much to ask????

luciadilammermoor · 26/02/2011 23:46

We're going too for the first time! Really looking forward to it & very stupidly excited about tents n food n bands n bunting.

Have also been on forums, someone recommended this wagon for small children www.amazon.com/Radio-Flyer-All-Terrain-Steel-Wagon/dp/B00000K1VS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1298763778&sr=8-1 Now with big reduction on amazon.com, I'm very tempted for my three DC, ages 6, 3 & 1.

Anyone else going to dress up medieval?

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 27/02/2011 07:27

Envy we've made the decision we are too broke (am on mat leave) and dc are too young to get the most from it so it will be plain old camping again for me this year!

You should definitely dress up for the festival Grin

BellaBearisWideAwake · 28/02/2011 10:50

Ear defenders were great for DS who was 2.5 when we went. You don't need a wagon if you have an all-terrain pushchair, but our maclaren was a bit of a slog up the slopes.
