OK who wants to recommend me a tent?

We are going to take the plunge and start camping again this year, DH and I used to go all the while before the DCs.

We need a family tent though as our old one is just a big dome tent and I don't think we all want to sleep in together!

Any recommendations - would like a built-in groundsheet, two bedrooms and a decent amount of room to manoeuvre, needs to be possible for one person to erect though as one of us will have to entertain the DSes (4 and 2).

Also what would a 4yo and 2yo sleep in/on?

The outwell nevada! Tis brilliant. Built in groundsheet, 2 rooms (though we had just one DD in the smaller room so maybe you need next size up?), handy pockets Everywhere, big living area with windows all around.... Love it. Sigh. Can't wait to go again!

To sleep: DD (4) has a readybed thing from argos like this - an airbed-in-a-sleeping-bag (buy a battery-powered pump).

My bro has a Hi-gear Voyager 6 tent. It's lovely and has lots of lounge space. I highly recommend it. He can put it up on his own in about 20 mins (and he's not the tallest!) It's on offer in March at Go Outdoors.

Outwell Montana 6.

2 big bedrooms, huge living area, super sturdy in bad weather. love it!

would recommend you pay a visit to your nearest 'GO OUTDOORS' good advise and a lot to choose from

I second the Outwell Montana 6. We have used ours (DH, I and DS(4)) for weekends away and a three week holiday in France last year. The bedroom pods are large enough for a double airbed or 2 singles. There's a large living space and we also bought the extension for our trip to France, which we used to cook in etc. Highly recommend.

DS had a single airbed and a single sleeping bag. We tried taking duvets but were too cold! The sleeping beg with an extra fleece blanket is v snuggly.

Also second going to Go Outdoors to see them erected.

Outwell Oakland. Vango self inflating mats.

A 5 m bell tent with sewn in ground sheet and you can get two inner tents to hang inside them too. This is an amazing family tent and pitches in 15 mins but as it is canvas it would need to be dried carefully once it is home!

Another vote for the Outwell Nevada M here too, with the canopy. I don't think I could put it up on my own though, but at 2 DS was quite happy with a few pegs and a spare mallet while we put it up together. And now we rope both kids in for 'holding down corners' and 'holding the end of the pole' type stuff. Doesn't take long at all to put up.

Cabanon Barbados

I can put it's little sister the Guadeloupe by myself in 20 mins from taking out of the bag to last peg in.

For the littlies I would put them on a multi mat or a self inflating mat.

HerbWoman · 26/02/2011 01:15

Ah yes, I've looked longingly at the Barbados for a few years now. Not got that sort of money for a tent though Envy.

Needanewname · 01/03/2011 20:58

Another one for the bell tent here.

When we started camoing with children, I insisted on separate bedrooms, I now like the fact we will be in one (have an inner) so I can deal with any night time wakings a lot easier.

Also goes up very quickly (and can be done by one person) - very important when you have hungry mouths to feed!

We got ours from Obelink in Holland

We've got the Outwell Nevada L It's excellent. There's only 3 of us (4th on way), but we bought it to grow into.
For the first few trips we put DD in the end room. The other 2 rooms unzip into one large one. We were in one half and all the Stuff was in the other. But the last time we went away it was colder and DD kept waking up so we part unzipped the double bedroom and she slept in one side, we slept in the other and she slept through because it was warmer.
The plan is that when the kids are bigger they can have the big room and we'll go down the other end... which has another door.

We've also been to a festival in it. It chucked it down so we took the end bedroom down and had 10 people comfortably sat on chairs around a table playing guitars.

It would be difficult to put up alone, probably not impossible, but it only takes 15-20 minutes for DP & I to do it whilst also entertaining DD.

DD aged 3 now sleeps on a little kippa.
This is still a fab deal. 2 little kippa's for the kids, 2 wedges for you.
