Anyone got any really good tips. Be that pieces of equipment or bits and bobs to take that you cant do with out.

Mine would be head torches.

Spare sleeping bag for when your previously dry at night child wets the bed!

Loads of kitchen roll and bin liners.

The best light you can afford for nights playing cards etc.

Wine.

I like the luminous guys from Outwell, much easier to spot and not trip over in the dark.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 31/01/2011 19:49

what are the spare guys for Slubber? is that in case you mislay your dh?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 31/01/2011 19:50

luminous guys. it gets worse.

MisSalLaneous · 31/01/2011 19:52

Grin sethstarkadder, that made me laugh.

Slubber, a question - what do you use your clingons for? I've seen it mentioned before, but wasn't sure whether it's more for emergency use or if it's useful for everyday camping stuff too.

PrettyCandles · 31/01/2011 19:54

Fewer clothes than you think yOu will need. One set of 'grubbies' for the dc to wear on-site, and a set of 'cleans' for them to wear if you go on trips off-site.

Flip-flops and wellies/cloggies.

Let children run around barefoot in shorts in all weathers, with T-shirts/fleeces/raincoats as necessary. Bare skin wipes clean far more easily and dries far more quickly than footwear or fabric.

Strict No Shoes In The Tent rule, and a clothes airer (if you can squeeze one in) for wet coats.

Small bucket with close-fitting lid in order to avoid 3am trips to loo block in pouring rain.

MisSalLaneous · 31/01/2011 19:55

Ah, and mine not even a proper tip, but I like a hot water bottle - makes leaving the fire slightly easier.

SlubberIsNotGettingEHU · 31/01/2011 20:00

Lol seth.

How odd, I just typed pfft (in response to needing spare men as an essential to a camping trip) and it auto corrected it to orgy. Hmm

Sal they are brilliant (the clingons) for both emergency and everyday use. If a pegging point tears then you can just stick a clingon on with a spare (luminous Wink guy) and job's a goodun. I use them on the tarp or on the tent if it's very windy. I read on ukcs that you can use them to connect your tarp to the tent. Am looking forward to trying that out.

One of these hanging from central pole in bell tent keeps all important bits (keys, torches, dummies Grin ) in one place.
Don't know if other types of tents are tall enough/have a place to hang it from, but if so, I'd recommend it!

Thanks Slubber, will give them a try.
