Anyone experienced the Grand 2 bed or Grand 34 3 bed?

we are thinking of going with 3 under 5s.

Not done this one. we went in the Supernova with 2 under 6. It was fine, but not sure how much room we would have had if it had been raining IYSWIM. We went in the Canvas equivalent(Centuary) of the Grand 29(3 beds) and there was a lot more room. The bunk room was very small and hot. But you might find the 3 bed room one better if you are worried about one of the children falling out of the upper bunk. The 2 bedroom would give you more living room space, I suppose it depends on what the weather is like and how much time you will spend inside. The fittings of the Centuary were excellen, and the picture of the Grand looks even better, and the 34 would be even bigger. The extra square feet do make a difference, and make it more Chalet like

Coddy, we stayed in a Grand 34 3 bed 2 years ago at Messanges and found it very spacious with 4 adults and also 3 under fives - we had the double bedroom and found there was room to squeeze in a travel cot for our ds who was 15 months at the time. And it has TWO LOOS!!!!! (We had the ensuite, of course. ).

We made the mistake of booking too late (with Haven) this year to get the same size mobile home and suffered the consequences (v cramped).

Last year we stayed in a Grand 29 3 bedroomed with our 3 children, then 6, 4 and 2. Absolutely fine and plenty of room.

This year, we stayed in a Grand 34 3 bedroomed which had the 2 bathrooms and bigger master bedroom.

Next year, we've booked the VillaGrand 3 bedroomed which is same layout as the Grand 29 - just villa version.

codswallop · 29/08/2003 12:43

According to the info in the brochure they have double glazing as a standard, have additional wall insulation that makes them cooler by day but also warmer at the start/end of the season. They also have a pitched, tiled roof.....not sure what use that would be, but there you go They are also supposed to be wider, but the squ footage of the villa grand is the same as the Grand 34. I'm planning next years break as well!

Codswallop

I've got the Keycamp brochure here - according to that the differences with the Villa are:

Double glazing - warmer at night/cooler by day
Wider lounge and higher ceilings
Tiled roof
Additional wall insulation reduces the summer heat (would have been handy this year as we were there during the Heatwave - 44C and as you can imagine caravan was a sweat box LOL!)

Haven't done the Portsmouth to St Malo crossing -last 2 times we've done Poole to Cherbourg. Next year, I've booked the overnight from Portsmouth to Caen as we're staying in Loire region.

hmb · 29/08/2003 13:55

We did Portsmouth Caen this year and it worked like a dream. The kids (6.5 and 3.5) loved it and we all got some sleep. The trouble is that the crossing in shorter than to St Malo so you only get about 5 hours kip. We were sweating this summer!

Oh and we went to Arrmanche (SP?) to spend part of the day while we were waiting for the ferry, a nice beach, museum of the D-day landings, and a great mini golf range which the kids loved. Lots of places to eat and about 45-60 mins to Caen.

codswallop · 29/08/2003 17:08

have booked the three bed. the crossing was tricky and the price went up and down by 300 quid according to the dates, times etc... all that for the same stretch of water!!

Looks nice - just had a nosy in the brochure LOL!

We've booked Saumur (E'tang de la Breche) next year - wanted a smaller site for a change. Recommended by friends who went this year and unbeknown to each other, we booked the same 2 weeks for next year!!

I'm not brave enough to drive too far down (both me and kids hate car journeys!), so DH and I agreed that when we decide to go south, we shall fly - DH's boss has done that this year.

hmb · 29/08/2003 17:39

Looks very swish. I bet you'll have a great time. Which of the two la Palmyre sites are you going to? The slides look good in both of them!

codswallop · 29/08/2003 17:48

bonne anse.

how on earth will you fit all the stuff in a suitcase slink?!!

it s only 5 hrs from st malo apparently

Looks great. Ds 'discovered' water slides this year at Le Bois Dormont. He was bombing down them on his own (age 3.5) and my heart was in my mouth but he loved them. I think we'll do the Vendee again, any recomendations or ones to avoid??

I think we'll go for a short crossing and break the trip part way down Dol looks good. Stop there for a couple of days either end of the holiday.

codswallop · 29/08/2003 18:07

I always think at the end of aholiday you just wnat to get home.. but on the way down - nice

hmb · 29/08/2003 18:10

Yes I agree, but we have a 4/5 hour drive on the UK side, so splitting the trip in France is essential. I've been temped by the site in the netherlands (next to the massive water park) as the drive would be easier on the UK side. A freind has been here and she said it was excellent

codswallop · 29/08/2003 18:36

and clean I bet.
