Well ours is 14 years old and still going strong. Used on average once a year.

thisisyesterday · 30/09/2010 20:35

well that;s certainly promising!

My DD was told by her local camping shop that they won't be selling them next year because they are rubbish. Could be that newer ones are less robust than older ones.
Lots of tents in sales at the moment so you might get a better tent than you expect.

thisisyesterday · 02/10/2010 18:49

ahhh this is true.. maybe gone downhill in recent years?

we are going to make a trip out to local camping shop and see if they are doing any deals on ex-display ones

We have a Coleman Trispace which we can't fault in any way. It's fabSmile Only problem is they seem to be quite rare, so parts are hard to come by...

doozle · 04/10/2010 09:34

I had a Coleman Wyoming. Two of the poles broke this year and the design meant that it leaked in rain at the doors.

Much happier now with our Khyam.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/10/2010 09:37

Our coleman is OK - does the job and looks nice (muddy greeny colour which I love Blush) Ripped a little where we were pegging. How much you looking to spend and for how many people?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/10/2010 09:40

is it a 8 sleeper monster?

thisisyesterday · 04/10/2010 09:43

i think we need an 8 berth. i did look at the gelert horizon which seemed quite reasonable too.
it's 2 adults and 3 children

We had a Gelert Horizon 8 which we loved. Lost it in high winds this year when the poles snapped and a broke pole went through the canvas. If you do get one it is worth having the porch as well because when it rains you get water in the tent as you open the door and last year we got a huge puddle underneath (very wet in Devon). Not buying another one because we are going for a smaller one for weekends instead, but for proper holidays it was great.
Good bargains to be had online. We got ours from Winfields Megastore and their service was very good. Camping World also had bargains last time I looked.

thisisyesterday · 04/10/2010 11:46

there is simply too much choice!
we have a camping world place near us which we were at the other weekend. we were going to go back and ask if they sell thier display ones cheap... worth an ask!

our vango icarus 600,is fab space wise, the sleeping area is huge and has a divider,we had a double airbed and a travel cot in one side for the kids, and a double airbed in ours and a big space for getting changed at the side.
we r going to buy the canopy for next year when we are going away more.

its well worth going and having a look at some on display,we were looking at some on ebay, and when we seen them in real life,we totally changed what we wanted!

thisisyesterday · 04/10/2010 18:33

does it have just 2 bedrooms?
my problem is that the children jusst do NOT go to sleep ever if they are in the same room. so i would ideally like one with at least 3 separate sleeping areas

also needs to have a sewn in groundsheet

I spent five weeks in our Coleman Mackenzie Cabin 4 over the summer and it was AMAZINGLY good. Coped with some serious stormy weather, being put up and down about fifteen times without too much hassle. It has really good air circulation with all sorts of little flaps you can open to get a breeze coming through when it's hot, I was so, so pleased with it. My ONE quibble was that only one of the big window/door sides has a mozzie net on it, I would have much preferred it if both had nets so we could have hidden in there from the wasps in the very hot weather, but with only one it is a bit too warm to eat inside at midday in France.

The Outwell we looked at (we dithered between the two for ages) did have two mozzie nets but the open area outside the bedrooms was much lower. I also had longings for the outwell kid tent bit but hey ho...

Grumpla · 05/10/2010 19:49

Oh yeah meant to say, we have the Cabin 4 but they do bigger versions of the same tent, definitely a Cabin 6, possibly even an 8?

sazm · 05/10/2010 21:49

ah yes the icarus 600 has 2 bedrooms, although our friends have a similar tent, and the adults sleep in the living area and the kids have a bedroom each, then in the morning they stick all the airbeds etc into the bedrooms.
