Just had an amazing weekend at Britchcombe Farm. Being able to choose your spot, in a large field, with views of the ridgeway (Vale of the WHite Horse) with plenty of fire pits, wood delivered by campsite owners. wine & friends. Bliss!

Campsite has improved facilites over the last few years. At the farmhouse are a few washing up sinks, loos & showers. In our field we had 8 Portaloos - but they all had a sink, squirty soap, paper towels & loo roll - and they didn't smell!

You can buy cream teas from 3pm and also pancakes in the mornings.

There is a teepee & Yurt. Teepee is available for hire. Bongos were played but stopped at 10pm.

We will be going back again soon.

It's a favourite of mine, hopefully visiting at the end of the month. It's only 30 mins from home for us.

How lovely, my Dd2 a her friends cammped out in the garden a couple of weeks ago and I built them a little fire to toast their marshmallows on. The 2 visitors had never done it before and loved it.

Breck Farm near Sheringham Norfolk also allows campfires and sells the wood. It's lovely there and right beside a forest.

The Buckland Bell campsite in Somerset also allows fires and they provide the firepit (old beer kegs and upturned bin lids) and even have nets of logs on sale. It's a basic campsite with the toilets in the pub and only one portaloo on the site for night time use - and the shower is effectively a hose with a colander on the end. If you can rough it a little bit (or for a weekend anyway) it's the best place on earth to go.

We've just had a fantastic 4 nights on South Penquite Farm on Bodmin. Fires allowed and great facilities. I've just raved about it in a review on MN too it was so good.
Unfortunately we didn't have a fire as DD might have been too intrigued and we were too tired. We've already decided we're going back next year though, we have to justify the cost of the Eden Project tickets by going again.

Debden House in Essex also has open fires in 2 of its fields and provides free firewood (well, local gardeners and builders drop their wood cuttings off regularly!). Wonderful :)

ooh more please!

any up North?

Yes lots - check out www.ukcampsite.co.uk and use search facility to find sites that allow campfires - we only go to sites that allow real fires (i.e. not just bar-b-ques) and cook on them all the time using an adjustable grill. Kids love it and husband is now a converted happy camper. Smile
