Actually the beaches haven't been heaving when we've been there in the last few years. But then again it has been cold and wet. I'd suggest the north, near Roscoff as nice, there is a lovely beach I've forgotten its name, but it does have a bring your own tent campsite pretty much on it. Always quiet when we went there (only a few English, Germans and Dutch), but it was cold and wet.

Don't know about August but we were at Camping De La baie near Trinity Sur Mer for May half term and the beaches were empty. Beach is right outside the campsite and stunning.

Check these out www.carisma.co.uk/.

Lovely holiday company, with nice beaches.

Good luck

We love south Brittany - the beaches are like unspoilt Cornwall.

You are not dreaming. It is possible! We were in Brittany 1st week in August this year This beach was PERFECT - it is huge and was not crowded at any time when we went there Smile. DD spent hours rnning up and down the beach chasing seagulls! There were a couple of campsites jut a few mins away IIRC.

St Cast le Guildo here

les deux fountaines. you walk through the fields to get to the beach. steer clear of beaches with lots of facilities - ie a resort and you will be fine.

I loved les deux fonatines too!!
But camping village le plage at le Guilvenic in britany is literally right on the beach! There are beach side cycle tracks too so you can cycle beside the beach into the town. The pool was very basic when we went but when you see photos now, it looks much better!! Lovely wee site and fab part of Brittany!

Another lover of Les Deux Fonatines! Smile

Highly recommend it, lovely beach with plenty of space (in August too!). Good facilities on site too.

......plus a hot lifeguard at the camp site pool Grin

Another vote for Camping De La baie at Trinity Sur Mer. Or how about Raguenez Plage at Nevez?

ebayaddict - what was the site like? I have lkooked at this one as thought it would be good in a campervan with beach so close

The site was great, pretty quiet when we were there.
I've cut and pasted the review I did for uk campsite below (it's wuite long)

Just back from a fab 10 night stay at this site in a eurocamp static. Situated on a spit of land near Trinite sur Mer on the southern Brittany coast.

Had a look at the touring pitches and they did look on the smaller side if you have a beast of a tent. Although you could always park the car at the beach carpark next to the shop. The pitches were grassy and well mown with hedging at each side for privacy.

The site was pretty quite considering it was May half term. The statics seemed full but only about 1/4 of the touring pitches were used.

Toilets and showers were very clean every time we went near them - you do need to take your own toilet roll and soap with you each time. The shop was very basic although you could order bread if you wanted for the next day. I expect that it is better stocked in the height of season.

The pool was heated so that our children were happy to play and slightly covered which meant that we could sit and watch them even when it was raining. The beach just outside the campsite was lovely with very clear water. There were a few dead jellyfish around and you would want beach shoes for the rockpooling.

We had one meal at the site restaurant overlooking the beach. The fixed price 3 course meals were very tasty and good value at E18.50 (E9.50 for kids 2 course).

We visited the nearby villages / towns of Trinite and Carnac. Trinite is very pretty but full of yachting bods with prices to match their tastes in the clothes shops. The harbour wall offers excellent crabbing for children but take your own crab lines as they do not sell them in the town.

Going in the opposite direction (towards Carnac plage) is a small SuperU supermarket with petrol that you can only pay for via card. If you keep following the road until you come to the roundabout with the Casino on it, there is the most amazing boulangerie. If offers woodfire oven cooked pizza as well as a huge variety of breads and pastries. Well worth the 10 minute drive for the quality.

The only thing I have marked it down for is on the value for money side. While we got a last minute bargain, the prices at the height of season are steep for tourers. 2A + 2C would pay Euro 50+ a night for a pitch big enough for a family tent with electric during the summer hols.

We went to Beg Meil end of July and it was fabulous, we have rebooked for next year already.

The site may have got busy (the pool definitely did in our 2nd week) but we went to the beach, a short walk through a nature reserve which is large enough not to be crowded. Or drove to Beg Meil itself/Benodet.

Beautiful.
