I saw sallystrawberry recommending this sleeping bag and she was right it was fab. Normally we take our duvet but this was really cozy. The only problem was we couldn't get it back in the bag.

OOh that worries me Xena! I too was talking about it and we've got one, not actually got it out of the bag as we're going camping on Weds - hope it goes back in! - did you lengthen the strap thingys?

What have you done with it now? or is it grazing outside on the lawn?

We froze on our first night camping this weekend and had to make an emergency dash to ASDA to buy two 6.99 single quilts!! Might order one of these!

Might try lengthening the straps lucycat I hadn't thought of that It is in a lack bag
The only thing about it I forgot to add is that it seemed abit small for a kingsize, although plenty big enough.
Did you have a good weekend Kbear? Our site was naff.

Where did you go Xena?

We had a lovely time, awful time, fantastic time - in that order!!! Went away thursday - lovely site in a wood, tucked away, quiet, lovely people, nice kids, all good.

Friday went out for the day, got back 8pm, nightmare began. Next to us were the family from hell - 8 adults, probably mum and dad, three grown-up sons and their girlfriends, four motors, four tents, (on two pitches). They shouted, swore, and partied until 3am.

Next day, I spoke to the owners who said that they were regulars and no one had complained and what did I expect on August bank holiday.

I said i expected that at a holiday camp I didn't expect it on a 30 pitch site in a coppice, two miles from the nearest pub. I expected families enjoying peaceful camping and respecting other families and keeping quiet when it was obvious the rest of the site was trying to sleep. (At one point in the night a baby cried and someone said "oh, here we go, now a f**king baby's crying".)

I said I wanted a refund - she said she wouldn't do refunds and sarkily said I wouldn't find anywhere else now.

So, in Kbear fashion, I meandered round the campsite chatting to other people and found that everyone felt the same way but didn't like to complain. So I got them all to complain, I got a refund (for three nights instead of the two I was owed - kept that quiet!!) and we left.

Went to meet our friends who were in a caravan in Rye - found by chance a lovely site but you needed a chemical toilet. Had a chat with the owners, they lent us one, had two more blissful nights "proper" camping with no noise other than pigs snuffling about in the field next door.

You did ask!!

We also experienced lots of noise Friday night at our campsite (Nr Hartfield, Sussex) - people partying until 5.00am. Nightmare, although the kids slept through it thankfully. We were tempted to pack up Sat morning but decided to stick with it and Sat night was much quieter (could have been partly due to the copious amounts of red wine we consumed ).

We went to a place outside of Maidstone called Bearsted (I thought we'd stay close to home being bank holiday) Dreadfull women screaming at 2 in the morning. DH and I didn't like the atmosphere. We have only done Sussex before now, I don't know if we would camp in Kent again. The children loved it though. Lots of nice children there own age. and as a plus point for us there was a nice 12yold girl who chased DD2 around for us as she has turned into abit of a runner . As I was opening the zip in the morning she would be out before I got it up high enough for me!

It's tricky isn't it to find a site that has some facilities but will be family orientated as well.

Not sure whether people are just inconsiderate or don't realise how noise travels on a campsite!!

KBear · 31/08/2005 12:11

I just don't get why the people that want to party all night go camping anyway, why don't they go to holiday camps so they can party the night away and leave the campsites to the people who like it quiet! OOh, I'm a ratbag today (first day back at work!).

happymerryberries · 31/08/2005 12:19

I so agree!

We were on a noce quiet site but even we had some noise at 2 in the morning! people shouting at each other as they walked across the site.....why???

Some people have no basic manners.....Disgusted Tumbridge Wells

We should have a MNers only campsite somewhere so we can all drink wine in the evening while the kids run around, then off to bed for lovely sleep to prepare for the early start!!

I am used to going on holiday in the highlands of Scotland where it's very quiet and being a Londoner that's what I'm hoping for when I go on holiday - peace and quiet!

Also it seems you don't get a marked out pitch on some sites, the one we stayed at in Romsey you could practically hear them breathing in the next tent!
