Worth it for 1 night?

Poop. Due to go on our first little camping trip this morning, just me and my dd (6) Had everything packed (we're not taking a car - so there was lots of careful packing involved) and she's not been well during the night. Seems better now but want to make sure her temperature has gone as don't want her to be ill in a tent in a field for the night.

So, we have the site booked and the train tickets booked, can still go tomorrow morning - but it'd just be for one night. Can't decide if it's worth it or not?

Would you?

I would, yes. As you are taking minimal stuff anyway, it's less of an unpack once you get there and again when you pack up. One thing though - does your tent pitch easily?

We're on our way back from one night camping now. Had a fab time, didn't bother with cooking things (except for storm kettle, I need coffee), and took pop-up tent instead of bell.

Hi, yes, it's easy to pitch - takes me about 10 mins I'd say - putting it back into the carry bag is another matter entirely though!

I have a trangia which I've always used when I've been camping myself so that's lightweight and super easy to use for tea and hot choccies at night.

You've just been for one night too then? Thing is out pitch is available from 12 midday to 12 midday - cant do anything really on the day we leave as we will have our stuff with us, so just got the day we arrive and the night. Will be enough time for a long walk, see the farm itself maybe go fishing in the lake. Or perhaps the reception there will hold our bags for the day when we pack up so we can go out and collect them on the way home?

It's worth asking them - I cannot see why they won't, and that'll give you two nice days.

Yes, we were supposed to go Friday night, but couple of things happened which made us decide just leave first thing on Saturday instead. Because we took a lot less and didn't bother cooking, we had loads of time to go blackberry picking, we went to the steam railway close by, played in the stream, and generally just hang around there and using the rope swings.

I've decided to do more one-night camping trips next year, where, if weather is good on a Sat morning, we grab just the basics, and off we go.

Hope she is feeling better already.
