HELP! Campsite in Scotland needed for next week!

DH and I have decided on a last minute week away next week. DS2 wants to go to Scotland...

Now I know that any good sites will have been booked up for the summer holidays months ago but I am hoping that as it is the end of the holidays we may be able to find somewhere with space.

Any suggestions for good campsites in Scotland? Ideally we would like to be able to walk to a pub/restaurant and not be too isolated. Not bothered about play area etc as the boys (15,10 and 6) are good at playing together.

Perfect location would be near lots of sightseeing - DS's love castles, history etc

I am hoping you lovely ladies can help... (it's my first post in camping so please be gentle Wink

which part of scotland?

Wiggletastic · 19/08/2010 18:22

You may be lucky in getting something as the schools have already gone back here now. I could suggest a couple of places but it depends on what area you are interested in?

CerealOffender · 19/08/2010 18:24

and do you want karaoke or peace and quiet?

2gorgeousboys · 19/08/2010 19:13

Thanks for the responses. We really like Pitlochry/Stirling etc as there seems to be lots to do that will interest the boys.
DH does not want to go anywhere south of Edinburgh as he thinks it's too much like England and not Scottish enough Hmm.

Definately not karaoke people, more sitting with a glass of wine and looking at stars.

Fingers crossed we can find somewhere nice!

there is this place, i haven't been but lots of folk on here rave about it.

i love this place but the facilities are basic and youcan't walk to a pub or village.

CerealOffender · 19/08/2010 19:48

i have cycled past this one it seems ok, in a big holiday park kind off way. you can walk into pitlochry, but i would consider that a disadvantage as i loath the place!

CerealOffender · 19/08/2010 19:49

this one is v. scenic but secluded

Wiggletastic · 19/08/2010 19:58

I haven't been to any in that area but Comrie Croft was recommended to us too. A friend in work recommended Blair Atholl which is near Pitlochry and the site is near the castle. Hope you get something! Grin

Oooh they all look good - thank you Smile.

Time for some ringing round to see if there is any space.

Thanks for all your help. Even if there is not space at these now Comrie Croft and Loch Tummel seem must visits for the future - the scenery looks beautiful.

Well we are booked into Comrie Croft from Sunday - didn't meet any of my original criteria but I was seduced by the idea of sitting round a campfire on an evening, snuggled up with the boys, glass of wine in hand!
Will make sure I post a review when we get back.

Thanks for the great tip off ladies - now fingers crossed it stays dry Hmm
