After approaching a trip to Dorset with trepedation for benefit of my son, borrowing a tiny 3 man Eurohike tent from a friend that you couldn't stand up in and leaked and felt like it was going to blow away in the middle of the night I have come out of the other side feeling very positive toward the idea of camping as overall we had a fantastic time.

My partner and I are organisation freaks and like the idea of pitching a tent so we can set up all equipment and have storage space for clothes etc without living out of the back of a car. The friends we were with had a Vango Orchy for them and their two children but we felt this was too small especially on days when the weather was poor and at times we were forced to take shelter in pubs.

They laughed at us admiring this Royal Bordeaux on the campsite as they feel camping should be more of a minimalist experience. Granted it is VERY big and out of our price range. As alternatives we like the Easycamp Boston 600 and the Kampa Croyde

Does anyone have any opinions on these tents? I have heard a lot about Vango and Outwell but not these makes. Also would anyone know anything about how long they take to pitch and if the size if them means that campsites would generally charge you for two pitches instead of one? I would also like to hear peoples opinions on having a tent with a sleeping area that has a high roof. My friends advised you should go for a low ceiling as the area heats up quicker, my logic tells me that if you are wrapped up this shouldn't be a concern and having the higher roof would mean it wouldn't be so muggy and condensated in the morning when the sun hits.

I am also interested in any recommendations any of you have and why you rate your tent. I do have a shop near me that has tents on display so will be going to view as many as I can.

pmsl @ your titile Grin

I agree with the low ceiling idea, but that's more relevant to bedrooms obviously - not necessarily the living area. If you've never spent a few nights in a massive big tent and woken up freezing cold so many times in the nights, I can tell you it's not pleasant Wink

I'm probably a bit of a fraud posting on here - for the last five or six years we've done caravanning and only me and the dc doing camping in the three-man Vango - which is fantastic for its (small) size.

How about hunting out some reviews - the campers discussion forums are very honest Wink

I've posted on your thread on UKCS, offering my love of the Hi Gear Kalahari tents :D (after originally wanting the Boston 600 too)

Thanks for pointing me to UKCS Giggle and thanks for heads up on Kalahari Lunavix, I am going to tent shop tomorrow to see what they have on display.

well we have a high gear one, www.higear.uk.com/hi-gear-voyager-6-6-berth-tent-p146468.

Its very high roof but slopes down for sleeping area. You can still stand in it though. had a bit of condensation but the sun soon dried it out. bedroom part has enough room for 2 dbl air beds and 1 single airbed. living area is massive, we got ours for go outdoors they dont sell it there any more but they have offers on each week we picked it up at a bargain £120. At the minute they got a good deal on this one :

Not sure if the ground sheet is fully sewn in around the doors on that one (an essential for me to keep the bugs out)

If theres a store near u they have all their tents up for you to nosey at
