Is it safe to camp on the moors with a young child ?

Hi, I used to go camping with my family when I was a child. I was talking to my husband about it and he thinks it'll be fun to go with our 5 year old daughter.
I've looked at a few camp sites, and most of them have a 3 night minimum stay, we only want to do it for one night just as a novelty for our daughter.
I was wondering wether we could camp out in the open or on the moors or wether this would be dangerous?
Also our daughter goes to bed at 7pm, so we were thinking about taking board games and wine etc to pass the time and have some fun. Does anyone have any tips on going camping for the first time with a little one?
Or any good camp sites in the south Devon area? Thanks. Smile

If you're in Devon are you talking about Dartmoor? You can legally wildcamp there. I don't think it would be dangerous if your DH is there.

I don't think it would be dangerous at all. I camped on Exmoor when I was a kid.

It's not like An American Werewolf in London, you know Grin

I would stick to a campsite myself as although the Moors are lovely, the weather can change in a heartbeat - I'm from Plymouth and was always hearing stories of the Duke of Edinburgh lot coming a cropper with the weather

GetOrfMoiLand- That's true, I think it's that film that's put me off! Grin

It is Dartmoor I was thinking about. I have found a nice looking campsite that is also a working farm. My daughter will love it. She loves farms and tractors etc. We have booked to stay for 2 nights, so that'll be fun.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Smile

Near postbridge? Meant to be good if so.

It's fine to camp on dartmoor although you're not meant to camp right at the tors. And of course you should leave no trace. I used to camp at the plume of feathers but it now has terrible reviews on trip advisor so might have changed hands.
