Advice needed on towing a trailer

We've changed our car so need to buy a second hand trailer in order to go camping next week. I've found a half decent wooden 2nd hand trailer for a good price and our car has a towbar. I've done a bit of research and it seems as the trailer is unbraked it will need a secondary coupling to be attached between the trailer and car. The trailer we are buying doesnt have one.
THey are very cheap to buy and I went to a camping shop today but they only did one sort of secondary coupling and the guy in the shop couldnt see how I could attach it to my car.
THere is no bracket thing on the car only 2 small holes behind the tow ball thing.

Not sure what to do now. What do people do??

ALso am crapping myself about towing. The trailer we are getting is 5ft by 3ft. ANy tips??

Not sure about the braking/secondary coupling, I left all that to dh as I was terrified enough about having to do towing (dh doesn't drive). We do however have a chain that attaches the trailer to the car in case it becomes detached from the towbar, could that be what you mean? It just gets padlocked on around the bottom part of the ball, underneath where the trailer attaches. That's all I remember my dad having when he used to tow a caravan as well but maybe there was some kind of braking mechanism thingy too that I was unaware of.

As for towing, I had my first go last year and it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared, in fact I sometimes forgot the trailer was there . You don't have to drive very differently, just be more aware of where other road users are as things like changing lanes can seem a bit tricky if it's busy and you also want to avoid any sudden braking. I haven't got the hang of reversing it but I think that's mainly because I haven't had a chance to have a proper practice on my own, the only times I've had to try and do it have been under duress (crowded car parks etc) with dh giving me 'advice' that I'd rather do without! Anyway the solution is quite simple, dh detaches the trailer, I turn the car round and he fixes it back on again. Well he's got to have some uses, I'm doing all the driving.

Thanks Pixel. Yes, that is what I am talking about. DH got a license after the change in law so cant tow without a test. Also he's not coming with us anyway.

I am going to go to a tow place tomorrow to get some advice on how to fix it to my car.
