Ooh, thanks for this Rumpel - DH is dead keen to do some camping when we come back up to Scotland on holiday, so will be watching with interest!

Last week was camping at Comrie Croft, near Crieff in Perthshire - excellent - chickens to feed, woods to play in, close to Crieff/Perth/Stirling if the weather is dreadful and you need soft play! Really friendly staff

Camusdarach www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk/camusdarach-campsite.html

It's heaven - the beach is beautiful and deserted and less than a five minute walk.

Thanks all. I live in Stirling so Crieff is a wee bitty near - but itis a lovely area . My parent's are about 60miles north of Inverness so as much as I love the Black Isle (I'd love to live there) I wouldn't really camp there LOL.

Thanks though. There is a lovely campsite just about 1 mile north of Fort William - Glen Nevis - it has multiple toilet/shower blocks, a shop, pub nearby and a wee van that sells bacon rolls in the am and chips/fish etc in the evening. Shop sells camping essentials and midge repellant . It has a little swingpark for the kids and there is a swimming pool, supermarkets etc in Fort Wiliam. If you are into hill walking you will be in your element as there are lots of local munroes to climb.

i like loch ken in d&g. dh doesn't, the loos and showers are too dirty. the campsite itself is lovely though and you can hire canoes quite cheaply adn potter about on the loch. there are loads of lovely things to see and do nearby

FourLittleDucks · 29/07/2010 10:15

LOL Rumpel, we're in Stirling too ! so Comrie was a very 'local' holiday (new baby only 4mths so thought I could return home if needs be!). Actually really enjoyed it, despite proximity to home - would recommend for a weekend if you didn't want to go too far.

Last year we camped over in Tayinloan, half way down the Kintyre Peninsula - place called Point Sands, on the beach - really really beautiful.

Enjoy !

I can highly recommend Machrihanish, We were there a couple of weeks ago. Long drive though.

Rumpel · 29/07/2010 20:44

4littleducks - you should join us on our next netmums meet. I'm chairmummy for this area - check out your local page - stirling meet-ups. I used to put them on the local page here - but it's always dead. Yeah we went to Crieff Hydro when DD was about 19 months as I was preggers with DS and it wasn't too far to go.

We went to Glen Nevis campsite last year and had a really good time. Its in a fab area and the facilities on the campsite are good. My only complaint would be the lack of showers, only two in the ladies. We are going to try Comrie Croft soon as have heard good things about it and not too far for us to go from Glasgow. Other sites I would recommend would be Cashel on Loch Lomond and Ardgartan on Loch Long - both in stunning locations (but unfortunately the midges are evil!)

Rumpel · 30/07/2010 09:49

Glen Nevis has 4 shower/toilet blocks. The one we used had about 6 showers in the ladies.

Midges are evil

Lots near St Andrews. Craigtoun Meadows is good.

Piffpaffpoff · 31/07/2010 14:10

I don't think Craigtoun Meadows takes tents any more which is a shame cos we used to go there a lot. We just returned from Nydie, which is in Strathkinnes just outside St Andrews. Absolutely huge big grassy field, brilliant views down over St Andrews and out to sea, wee shop on site that seemed to be open from dawn til dusk and reasonable prices. The slight downside is that there are not that many showers, but I think this is the only place near St Andrews that takes big tents now so it's this or nothing. We had a fab time, just came home a bit less showered than I would have liked!

Rumpel · 31/07/2010 20:22

Thanks - have been talking about St Andrews most of today.
