Outwell are generally considered to be a good quality brand.

This is a basic tent so would be good for weekends away but probably wouldn't have enough space for a longer holiday.

It seems to be selling for £189. TBH in my opinion this is quite expensive for the size of the tent. I think you could get a bigger tent if you bought a cheaper brand. But it depends what you are looking for.

The tent pitches all-in-one so this should make it quicker to put up.

The general rule on tent sizes is to look at the manufacturer's guidelines on number of people then subtract one. So this would be a good weekend tent for 3 people.

well its just me a 7 year old and a 5 year old.. usually only ever go camping for 1 night max of 2... go with friends who have their own tent so we help eachother put them up...

is it crazy to be sold buy the carpet??? really want one with a sewn in ground sheet as at the minute we have a halfords own tent that came with the whole kit for £100 so its really basic...

We have a Carolina 3 (the medium size), we really like Outwells. (Ours is for sale, only used it once as now have a trailer tent .)

Avantia · 28/07/2010 20:40

We have just changed our tent to an Outwell Montana which is 6 berth but two sleeping pods (me, DH & two DCs).

Outwells are very good and you will see alot of them on campsites.

We also hav treated ourselves to a tent carpet !

Alot of non campers look at us daft when we say about a carpet but the campers just say 'oh I'd love a carpet ...'

I think if you are going just for 1 or 2 nigts then a carpet is not necessary (are they anyway ? but a weeks camping plus it is a must !

ninah · 28/07/2010 20:43

Would you always use a footprint as well? Got an oakland cheapish on ebay but wondering whether I need one to go with it

Avantia · 28/07/2010 20:52

We haven't got a footprint as didn't think they were necessary - certaintly not this year anyway.

found this article on footprints

cinnamini · 28/07/2010 21:03

We love Outwells too. In fact we've just bought an Outwell Magic (major bargain price ... too ridiculous to have passed it up!!) to replace our Idaho XL that we sold a few months ago.

We've had footprint groundsheets for all of our tents with sewn in groundsheets. Our reasoning is that if we're spending that much on a tent we really want to preserve it esp as the the sewn in part is actually part of the tent iyswim. We do always check for stones, twigs etc but invariably nearly every time we've pitched we've ended up with a hole of some sort in the footprint

ninah · 28/07/2010 21:09

ah thanks I think I will put something underneath then, even if it's an old plastic cloth as in the article
there seem to be some good bargains about atm! I was tempted by khyam but I think this outwell will be OK to pitch as the metal pole gives it a bit of rigidity and ds can hang on to it while I cope with the rest
...in theory

ninah · 28/07/2010 21:10

and I am taking an ordinary rug for the living space rather than the official carpet

greenlotus · 28/07/2010 22:28

We bought a footprint groundsheet for our tent this year, I'm so glad we did. Basically it cuts out the fifteen-thirty minute task of Cleaning The Bottom of The Groundsheet (always my job) when we are striking the tent, which was a pain because our tent has an enormous zip in groundsheet that ends up plastered with mud.

Also you can use the footprint to decide on where/in what direction you are going to pitch the tent, thus saving arguments.

ninah · 28/07/2010 22:30

gl you've convinced me
might as well do it properly

benbon · 29/07/2010 10:03
