I need to buy a sleeping bag tomorrow and I don't know where to start. I instantly thought of you happy campers

Basics:
-its for me
-I'm not an experienced camper, haven't been since girl guides or my festival days.
-first trip is 2 nights this week
-I feel the cold and can be a bit of a wuss
-will probably end up taking a duvet as well
-doesn't need to be particularly lightweight or compact (in fact I like the warmth and reassurance of a heavier weight on me at night anyway)
-budget upto £30

Ideally it would be from Mountain Warehouse or Argos as we have them nearby. No time to order online.

Thanks

This is a good price, though its a 3 season bag. I've never had a 3 season bag, only a 4 season one. If you only camp at this time of year it should be ok. I feel the cold and in summer my 4 season one is warm enough to not have to do the zip all the way up.

I bought 2 last week from Argos £14.99 each - tried them out yesterday and was too hot at night - had to unzip a bit during the night!

stripey -no danger of me camping any earlier than this time of year!! So 3 season then would be good option.

I think what confuses me is that all the websites have differing rating systems so its really difficult to compare

Bobbaline -Which ones were those? Was that outdoors though?

We were outdoors in a cheapo tent - just find the cheapest bags in the argos catalogue!

I was suprised not to be cold at night... we were well insulated from the ground - had those insulating roll up mats (£4,99 in sports shop) plus a futon and I was wearing full length cotton PJs! DD had a fleece blanket (£2.99 Halfords) - might be good if it was a colder night but we didn't need it!

Argos bags are also washable so no need to go to the extra expense of buying liners for the sleeping bags either

Thanks Bobbalina -you've given me hope that I won't freeze

You will be toasty at this time of year!

My main worry was rain as I don't think I am able to get the tent pitched without the roof layers touching! I hadn't camped for 15 years and had memories of being cold and uncomfortable even after a few drinks. This time was ok on comfort even after just one small glass of pimms!

I know what you mean about the camping after "a few drinks".

My last experience was festival camping -more of a case of passing out in a tent than sleeping .

In fact the sleeping bags I used then (this was in the early 90s) were those horrid 1970s shiny blue or brown ones with a bright orange lining. I'm sure they didn't have all the super-duper ratings that todays ones have.

Any more tips anyone before I go shopping?
