I can't wait! I'm so sad!

We had put the tent away think that was it for the year and then a friend sugested a bank holiday meetup!

Yippee!

(this is all rather surprising as I'm not an out doorsy sort of a gal at all, but it is just so fab!)

Sally Strawberry we went to a place called Park Farm at Manorbier. They have a big static caravan site but the camping is in a seperate field and the caravans are well out of view. 10 minutes walk to the beach. The facilities were a bit naff - free showers but they were really grotty. The loos were very basic and not that nice but they were clean and always had paper and soap. It was only £3.50 per tent then £1 for each adult so you get what you pay for and its great for weekends. Loads of space too for the kids on their bikes.

Hoping to get to clumber Park near Nottingham in September. Its in a walled garden so a bit enclosed but a great site in the middle of lovely gardens and woods with cycle ways etc.

happymerryberries · 25/08/2005 12:59

Oh, Clumber is beautiful! And I have heard a rumour that it is closing after this year.

We're actually going next Wednesday to this site in Anglesey
They were full over the bank holiday - it's our favourite site on Anglesey and only a couple of hours from Manchester. Can't wait

hmb - we put our colorado 8 up in a friends garden the other day and it took just 15 mins to get the basic bit up! First time too! Sooo proud of ourselves! Thanks for your advice! I'll be lurking on all the camping threads now

happymerryberries · 25/08/2005 13:26

It is a cracking tent! I love ours. We are now to the 25 minutes all pegged out. You are better than we were btw, our first attempt took an hour!

When ours dies I'm thinking of a Montana which is like the colorado but with a fully sewn in ground sheet....so you don't need to peg out the separate gs and you are fully 'protected' from the rain etc. So far we have only been fair weather campers!

The 'monty' does seem very popular on ukcampsite - but it was out of our price range!! any way I like to be able to 'sweep out' tents and the groundsheet in the 8 seems fine! (she says until it pours down and we get swept away next week!!)

happymerryberries · 25/08/2005 13:39

It does seem to be the latest thing doesn't it? They did have some problems with the poles at the start, but that seems to be sorted now.

PS I'm a newbie at this thing as well, this is our first year in our own tent, so I am full of the enthusiasm of the convert

What Clumber is closing? Must definitly go then - it was our first camp together as a family of 5. DD2 was 2 weeks old. Must go now they are all on bikes. Do fancy anglesy as well - maybe next year although I'd really love to go to scotland. Never done it in a tent (visit Scotland that is)

SueW · 02/09/2005 10:24

hmb - between Nottm and Derby - was it Elvaston?

happymerryberries · 02/09/2005 10:27

Not the Elveston Site itself, but we were just across the road in a place called Beechwood Park.
It is a nice little site, quiet, some hook ups for tents, some caravans in storage. They have three fishing lakes and a Go-cart track, which the kids loved.

All low key and well natured, £16 a night for all of us.

We went round the country park twich, fantasitc place. We also wet to Gulives world which I thought was fairly awful but the kids had a reasonable time....going on Bank Holiday Sunday we might not have seen it at its best.

Shame that Elvaston will disappear Apparently the local council are planning to sell it off to private enterprise.

I live only a few miles away and spent many happy hours there with DD, usually on winter walks finishing with hot choc in the cafe

BLANKfloozypuddingandpie · 02/09/2005 10:53

I went to Butty's site last weekend. It was lovely, but didn't like the showers!! Would def go back though.

happymerryberries · 03/09/2005 08:27

Just caught up with your posting Sue.....how awful if it gets developed! I was a wonderful place and we only saw a small fraction of it, I'm sure. It is such a abulous resource for the people of Derby and Nottinham. Real shame if it gets spoiled
