Not sure if I'm allowed to post about a specific named product but just wanted to ask experienced campers if this tent is likely to be any good?! It's massively reduced in price now and wondering whether we should buy it- we are planning to start camping with our 3 kids (aged 5, 3, and 7 months)- both DH & I are experienced campers pre kids but not been since kids so not sure we know what to look for!!

Any advice appreciated...we are on a v tight budget but don't want to waste money on a tent that won't stand much use or be suitable...

Thanks!

Tbh You probably do get what you pay for with tents.I would go for something with a hydrostatic head [waterproofing] of at least 2000. The weather in this country can change very quickly and you really need your tent to be fairly waterproof.
Having said that if you just want to go on the spur of the moment when the forcast is good, then go for it at least you will know if you like family camping without spending a fortune.

What's your budget? We'll see if we can find you a good but reasonable one.

Ineed2 · 23/07/2010 16:18

Good idea ledodgy there are some really good buys on the web at the moment.

JumpingJellyfish · 23/07/2010 16:20

our budget for a tent is £200 tops which I'm not really sure is enough for a 5 man tent with ideally 2 sleeping areas and a living area...

Waterproofing is very important as we live in NI and will be camping up here or on west coast of Ireland or Scotland and weather very unpredictable!

Would love to hear your suggestions thank you

Could you stretch to £220? We have just bought this It's fab and lots of living space. Vango also a very good and well known brand.

ledodgy · 23/07/2010 17:40

Should also say the sleeping area has a rol back divider so you can be separated if you want or vice versa.

*roll

Ooh yes, that vango is amazing - I've seen it in action. But shop around, I got the vango 800 dlx (sleeps 4 either side of living room - effectively 4 bedrooms) for £200 on sale at Millets last year.

There are further pics of the inside on this site. here

i wouldnt go for Tesco one - a friend bought the 3 man one and it wasnt very good - not very strong or sturdy and absolutely freezing.

I got a 4 man tent of ebay for £25 and that was far better.

Have you tried some of the camping sites - they have a section for second hand tents.

sazm · 24/07/2010 17:30

hiya,
we looked at the tesco one,but the reviews on it were rubbish.
i've spent a while looking at different ones and have just ordered a vango icarus 600 from ebay,im SSOOOOOOO excited, cant wait til its here.
its only £145 on ebay (£230 in yeomans) but we wanted to blue one so it was £153!!!
im really pleased with our choice,it has the bedroom at one side with a divider so we can separate the kids from us! and the living area is a good size and it all has a fully sewn in groundsheet. i also like the fact you can buy (£60) an extra canopy to make the living area bigger(we r going to buy this for next summer).

good luck x

Have a look on the winfields camping website they have got some good 6 man tents for around your budget.

JeezyPeeps · 25/07/2010 07:33

I have the 8 person version of this one, it's £150 at B&Q and we love it. HH of 3000 IIRC, two bedrooms and a living area.. www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=10787636&ecamp=trf-005&CAWELAID=4801 18142

Thank you all for your suggestions. Having a careful think and look at our budget!

Can I ask anyone still looking at this thread another cheeky question--- any recommendations for electric cool boxes/ mini fridge type thing? DD1 needs meds daily that have to be kept refridgerated, so need to get that sorted somehow... (annoying too our car lighter thingy is bust, as know some cool boxes can plug into those)...

Justabout lovely to "see" you! We're good, life is crazier than ever, but good. Unbelievably DC3 is now 8 months old! How are you coping with your 3? Hope you are well xx
