Why oh why are people so blinking noisy at campsites?

We are novices.

Went last year to a readytent and all we could hear was the little boy in the next tent talking very loudly to his father and him answering back this went on until about 1 in the morning then it would start again about 7. The people across from us were in a group and sat up drinking most of the night whilst playing music and generally chatting and laughing.

Cue this weekend, bought our own tent and gubbings and off we went. Nice place, no clubhouse etc etc. Pitch next to us was empty, all going swimmingly then the bikers from hell turned up. Three men on their own, loud as you like with every second word a swear one. They proceeded to have their own little party for 3 and were shouting and laughing to each other until very late. I kept nodding off and then shuddering awake everytime one of them laughed (and this was with ear plugs). Every time they farted they thought it was hilarous maybe so but not in the wee small hours of the morning.

Gah so what do you do? (and yes I had earplugs) Why oh why do people not quieten down. I felt like inviting them into my own tent.

Go to a cottage....

You need to sneak out and cut their guy ropes and then quickly run back to your tent as theirs collapses and pretend to be fast asleep!

It's a hard one, personally I won't stay at a campsite unless they have a noise curfew and before I book I want to know that there will be a person availible or a number to ring if there are problems.

Where we regually stay there is a 10pm curfew and though we (and lots of others) stay up much later than this everybody really does just whisper, you could hear a pin drop.

Early morning noise though I think you just have to accept, my kids are usually playing football (with a gang of others) by about 7.30.

scurryfunge · 19/07/2010 09:26

You have to accept a certain amount of noise at a campsite. Most have a quiet time after 11pm.

SanctiMoanyArse · 19/07/2010 09:44

You do need to find one with a curfew

until curfew time (usually 11, sometimes 10) you will get npise; the complete lack of soundproofing ion tenets means you will hear every word, and you will hear if anyone snores as well. But a decent site will enforce quiet after a certain time.

TBH Fimbo I think yo'd possibly be suited to camping and caravan sites- small, well managed, quietish. Have a look at their website.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 19/07/2010 10:07

Actually it's also worth adding that the site we stay at, wouldn't have allowed the bikers on in the first place, like a lot of other sites they have a 'no single sex groups' rule.

I think you need to be more picky and yes I think C&C would be well worth joining.

dreamingofsun · 19/07/2010 10:18

wherethewild things - surely they don't play football at 7.30 if there's a quiet rule covering this time?

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 19/07/2010 10:27

There is no morning rule, just no noise after 10pm.

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 19/07/2010 10:30

how much is it to join c and c - i keep seeing sites which are c and c only - im in the quiet camper gang..... trying to book something for wek after next still in hampshire area with no joy - just found one and review had a git big pylon in the camping field!

dreamingofsun · 19/07/2010 10:33

its 10.30 to 8 where we are going.

SanctiMoanyArse · 19/07/2010 10:55

It's £36 to join C&CC for us, a family of six. Sites then vary- you get the standard ones which are good value normal range (can't obv. give amounts as it vries on family size), but you also get a big sites book full of laods of small sites, which can be as chaep as £5 a night or quite expensive; there's a huge choice.

SanctiMoanyArse · 19/07/2010 10:56

Oh and wrt to booking week after next- will be a challenge as sistes fill up now, but yes to join C?CC as you can then phone them for help if tehir site finder doesn't being up anything (and they get last miute sites so almost always will), also i;ve got a last minute site before by posting a cry for help on UK campsite and had a site owner contact me with a cancellation.

Well the site we were on said no all male or female groups but this lot were about 40, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Also it did state in the welcome sheet that there was to be quiet time after 11pm. I don't think there were wardens on after that time, so nobody was there to reinforce it. The pitches were pretty hemmed intogether too, but maybe this is the norm?

I looked at the C & C club and think maybe it is the way forward for us.

The norm for insurance is a distance of 6m between tents.

Someti, mes biker gropups etc book rallies so exempt tehmse;ves from rules- but you should be told
