My dd's are 10, 7 and 3.

We take a pack of cards, top trumps, some dominoes and some picture dominoes.

Given the great British Weather, I think we need to add to our games box

What are your dc's favourite 'Rainy Day' games ...

Poker!

Boggle

Whose in the bag (we make our own with kids characters, TV stars etc)

Perudo

Jenga

If you have enough people, play silly word games like "Hello Harry". We camp in groups & the kids all play Mafia every night.

We used to go with DP's family years ago. We used to play lets see how long it takes to wind up mother in law!
(Or maybe that was just me)

Older kids like those puzzle books that have word searches etc in them and they are easy to pack.

JaynieB · 21/07/2010 19:24

If your kids are a bit older then Carcassone is probably one of the best board games ever - and you can get all sorts of extention kits to alter it.
We've also got Bananagrams which again is good for older kids.
DD (3) I usually bring a small basket with lots of small toys in - she's partial to a dinky teaset, pens, paper, play dough - older kids also seem to like this too.

I've bought Carcassonne after being told how fab it is and I don't understand it.

Ziggerty is another very good game.

Uno, yahtzee, monopoly deal (card game), monopoly. We have magnetic draughts and chess from the pound shop.

DS8 takes some cars, random bag of lego and some gogos. Then he builds castles or space stations for them with pans and boxes from the kitchen box.

DD6 does the same with polly pockets and ponyville ponies. Also take some beads for her to make jewelery.

I always have a couple of rolls of sellotape and some scissors. If we get desparate we raid the local supermarket for boxes and they do some junk modelling. By the time they have cut up old news papers etc to decorate the models we've killed 3 hours. The bonus with this one is that you don't have to join in, just read a book and admire the work in progress

I should add that we have a tent with a huge living space so they have room to spread out.

We have a games compendium (sp?) that's not much bigger than a monopoly box and has about 50 games in - various card games, pick up sticks, snakes and ladders, ludo, etc, etc.

Also love word games - such as 'I went shopping and I bought', 'I love my love with a ..'. Winking murder, although that's over really quickly when there's only 3 of us!

But Uno beats everything - we can play it for hours!
