Hello- I am looking for a tent for single parent family- 1 adult 2 kids- any recommendations.
I generally go camping with other people so would get some help to put it up.
Thanks!

Quechua Quechua Quechua I have the 4.2 seconds and can put it up on my own! 2 bedrooms plus good sized living area. Brilliant

Do you need separate rooms? If not, my current favourite is our bell tent. I think it is fab for a small family.

Ineed2 · 17/07/2010 12:34

I have the quecha 4.1 for me and the 2 kids, if you prefer to all be in one room. I can put it up, down and carry it [a short distance] myself.

I would always go for 1 or 2 "men" bigger than you need just for more space!

How old are the DCs? Will they be able to help pitch/strike? Or will the tent need to be up in a manner of seconds? Do you want to be able to stand up in it?

SanctiMoanyArse · 17/07/2010 19:49

Hi Gear Gobi is a good best I think, esp, as an introductory tent- and cheap, too. Go Outdoors stock it.

It is suitable easily for 3, could do 4 I reckon.

ninah · 17/07/2010 22:45

what about Khyam? i am single parent too, need to be able to pitch alone these seem a good bet? any opinions?

SanctiMoanyArse · 18/07/2010 21:12

We had a Khyam; great huge 8 berth Ontario

DH could pitch it alone (he's 5' 10"- neither tiny nor huge)

Bell tents are supposed to be very quick and easy to put up, and you can get an inner so you have a bedroom space and living space. Very gorgeous too!

I'm after one at the moment

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 18/07/2010 21:30

are bell tents really expensive though and heavy?

ninah · 18/07/2010 21:50

I had the impression bell tents were a bit heavy and difficult to erect single handed
Thanks for info on Khyam! I am probably looking at Freelander max so should be a breeze

Needanewname · 18/07/2010 23:56

Nappy - I think they're heavier than the normal nylon tents but cost wise depends on what tent you want. If you're looking at canvas then I think they're cheaper (depending on which company you buy from), if you're looking at nylon yes they probably are more expensive, but again depends which one you're looking at.

Ninah - yes I think heavy but for me I only go camping with a car anyway and our current tent is heavy too. From what I've heard they're really easy to put up which is another reason why I'm interested, our current tent takes us at least 45 mins to put up (and thats if we really rush!), a friend has one, took him 17mins to put up and that was only the 2nd time.

Also in hot weather they're a lot cooler, the other week by 7am I thought I was dying in ours, went into friends in the middle of the day, and OK it wasn;t cool in there but it was a damn sight cooler and with the sides rolled up. But I suppose they're not for everyone.

SanctiMoanyArse · 19/07/2010 09:38

Bell tents are deifinitely easy and fast to put up (single handed woudl IMO necessiatate a bit of strength) but they are also ehavy.

I remeber sunncamp doing some that were designed to beeasy to pitch; will look

SanctiMoanyArse · 19/07/2010 09:42

here you go, they do it in different sizes as well

basically what you are looking for is fibreglass poles (steel heavy to lit alone) and a cross formation if pitching alone. DH often pitches alone as my boys need a lot of supervision and says that one wpuld be pretty easy; my DH is not muscle man LOL (think skinny techno nerd who has aged just enough for a small paunch - but I love him)

ninah · 21/07/2010 20:39

thanks for the sunncamp link, am really torn now! I don't know why but I found it easier to buy house lol
