Hopping across the Chanel

We are going on holiday on Friday (motorhome) and are heading for Devon Cornwall, south coast, wherever we can get the best weather. We are taking our passports and Euros so that if the weather is bad so we can hop over to France. I saw someone mention hi vis vests and I think I remember warning triangles in case of breakdown. Is there anything else we would need so that we are not breaking the law as soon as we leave the ferry. That is assuming we do go.

  • Beam benders even if planning to travel only in daylight
- Driving licences - Car registration - Green card to show that insurance is extended to Europe - Green Flag or something similar in case of breakdown as cost of towing will be heartbreaking - Dont forget your EHIC cards - Spare light bulbs

Have a great time

Yes hi vis vests for everyone in the car and a warning triangle are legal requirements now.

As are all the other things Suzie mentions (apart from breakdown cover - your choice - and EHICs which aren't of course necessary for driving!)

they have to be somewhere accessible as well - so no good if buried in the boot under loads of crap!

Hi Deste - green card is issued by your insurer (you will have to ask and they may charge) it shows that your insurance cover is extended into Europe.

That thing about hi vis jackets being accessible is also a requirement - you need to be able to put them on without getting out of the vehicle.

Thankyou, lots to think about. I will need to see if we are insured for abroad.
