Not sure if im just an old intolerant misery but we just got back from a weekend camping and last night a family of two women one guy and a teen daughter were playin loud rave music until 2 am. They had seen us during the day and saw we had a small child and i am pregnant. I would normally say something but they looked a bit nasty and i was a bit wary. I used earplugs and slept ok but dh was awake most of the night but didnt say anything cos he thought hed wake up me and dd. Some people said something in the end and as i predicted got a mouthfull,i did look before i used the plugs to see if there was a number we could call but there wasnt. The point is you pay them to provide you with a service the same as any accomodation so why should you be the one to have to complian and cause bad feeling. People were actually leaving a day early as they were tired and couldnt face another night. I like to think i am a seasoned camper but do find people very oblivious to other people. What do you think shall i just remember to pack my plugs every time i go haha

Aren't there sites where you have to be quiet after 11PM?

I don't bother going except on very well-managed sites with staff on-site for this very reason.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 11/07/2010 18:12

That's horrible . How rude and inconsiderate!

ledkr · 11/07/2010 18:17

it did say about the 11 o clock quiet time but unless they enforce that it means you have to ask them to be quiet and they had been drinking so i had a feeling they would judt give me a mouth full then i would probably have given one back and dd gets upset and so on. I often wonder why the campsites don't ask you if you intend to be quiet or noisy and then put you in different fields like at festivals.i am going to e mail park resorts and have a moan.

I'd complain and ask for a refund, tbh.

violetqueen · 11/07/2010 19:01

Do tell the site owner .
Most sites would refuse to let these people come back . Maybe it's not the kind of site where people return ? But still tell owner .

violetqueen · 11/07/2010 19:02

PS - most defintely not intolerant old misery !

Ragwort · 11/07/2010 19:11

I do sympathise - this is the reason I am a very reluctant camper - even when the guidelines say 'no noise after 11pm' some people seem to ignore it.

You must complain - camp site owners are keen enough to take our money but should also be out and about 'enforcing' the rules.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 11/07/2010 19:32

I think you need to either be at a very small campsite that is right nextdoor to the owner's house. They will come out fairly sharpish if they're getting kept awake. I was at a campsite once where the farmer came out and threatened the rowdy campers with a shotgun!

Or you need to joing the Caravan Club or the Caravan and Camping Club. Either their big sites or the little CL members only sites are normally very quiet. They tend to keep the riff raff out.

SanctiMoanyArse · 11/07/2010 19:38

there is someone on site at a park resorts but because they are a hoiliday site they are less absolute- the reason being that they have people coming back from clubs etc at 1, 2 and it's not in their interests to upsset them as they spend on site

Which site were you at? IME some are better than others

bigTillyMint · 11/07/2010 19:42

There are lots of campsites that don't allow this to happen - you were very unlucky, but in future, check the campsite website / ring and ask / read reviews on the campsite.

ledkr · 11/07/2010 20:10

thanks everyone most helpfull.Sancti m a it was peppermnt in dawlish and was a bit chavvy yes. That was very unlucky for you, I have never experienced this while camping.

Definately report it to the owners, and ask for a refund if you're brave enough. I'm surprised there was no one on site to tell them to be quiet.

expatinscotland · 11/07/2010 21:30

I'd ask for a refund and point out the wardens were quick to boot you out, but not tell people who were breaking the rules to shut up.

rosieposey · 11/07/2010 22:27

We just got back from three days away today, last night and the night before some young surfers just turned up at 10 o clock at night pitched a tiny pop up tent and lit an open fire (not allowed on that site) and just stayed (obviously for free) as they were gone by 7.30 the next morning turning up at 10pm last night to do the same this morning again. I was really pissed off as i was worried about the open fire and their general noisyness, but i couldnt find anywhere to contact the site owners either, just pot luck i suppose.

SanctiMoanyArse · 12/07/2010 09:19

FWIW Park Resorts HQ are excellent- really good, they've helped us several times in the past- locating big spots for out tent (we need a bigger tent due to SN kids- need a room each) and when ds2 was 4, a bit neglected as we went through dx with ds1 and had a small baby, and heavily into the rabbit sparky character, they sent Sparky around to where we were to spend some time with him. Little things that make a differene to a littlie.

I have experienced this twice; once on a forest holidays site and once a few weeks ago in cheddar: in teh first instance by the time we woke the site wardnes had cleared campers from site (so by 7am- efficient!), and the other one site wardens made shut up (they weren't hugely hugely noisy but teh frequexct shouts of retard, those kids walk like effing spaz's (at dyspraxic ds2 and autistic ds3) etc particularly grated on our family obviously)

And as we camp typically 5 - 7 times a year that's a pretty low trouble hit rate overall.

Oh nno hanfg on- there was a family at Christchurch on their fiorst trip, raining and we were helping someone put up a tent like our old tahoma- going round tent to tent throwing abuse for not getting help to pitch; they gave up and went home, I suspect to a divorce and special brew.
