Will an NHS weight management service provide weight loss injections? Scotland

For a patient who is over 24 stone. Made it to the top
of the waiting list to see a weight management service, I know surgery is an option for me if I attend seminars but seems more drastic. Unfortunately I am not in the position to buy WL injections myself, I am sure I will get flamed here for asking however I am just curious. Scotland based.

i do not have type 2 diabetes high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease

thanks

using a friends Mumsnet I am not a chef lol.

Congrats on making it to the top of the list! The specialist weight management clinics waitlist is 2-3+ years long right now. They're able to prescribe both Mounjaro and Wegovy as long as you meet the BMI criteria and have one other "weight-related health condition". However, they don't really specify what those could be. Do you have any osetoarthritis? Sleep aponea? Anxiety / Depression? ... all of these could be argued to be weight-related, so it's absolutely worth asking.

Diagnosed with depression yes. I get a lot of yeast infections in skin folds due to weight and a low immune system. Otherwise no. Is there a waiting list for jabs too, or just the surgery?

I got my first appointment within a month or so of referral and waited around 4 months for my second appointment, 2-3 years seems insane. Maybe it’s different in Scotland.

I don't think there's a waiting list for the jabs specifically, it's for the appointment itself. I think if you speak to the doctor they'd be more willing to give you the jab than to do bariatric surgery. The criteria are tough but skin infections and depressions should be enough to count as a co-morbidity.

I can't answer for Scotland (England would be a no) but have you really looked into finances properly if they won't give them?

I didn't think I could afford them and put it off for ages but there are pretty good voucher codes and look into golden dose. For my first few pens it worked out 20 a week.

I am saving so much money. I don't drink fizzy drinks anymore. I have worked out that saved me £100 a month. Barely buy take aways. Sickening but that is saving £300 a month. Just on regular food as I am not buying chocolate and crisps and the volume of food is a lot less. Less meat. Less snacks. I spend a lot less on shopping.

My.husband and myself are both on it now. As we are on higher doses now the cost is a bit more (£26 a week).

I have lost 5 stone since Jan and husband 4 stone since Feb (he was 24 stone, just dropped below the 20 mark this week). Best think we have ever done!
