Hopefully not being unreasonable to share pride in my weight loss of about 13-14% of my body weight in the last 4 months!

I've done it by following a 1200 calorie a day approach recording things with MFP free.

Screenshot attached :)

It's been incredibly okay surprisingly but I've had to work so hard on making each calorie really count, and making sure to get in 5-7 a day, and get all my dietary calcium and protein. It's helped reformulate food and budget in treats and plan around meals out (all our birthdays and Christmas has been in these four months!).

Drinking 8 pints of water a day has helped too :)

I still have another 10 kilos to lose till I'm in the right BMI range for South Asian women - so onwards!

Sharing some pride in myself :)

PS not sure why the weight is blocked out as it's obvious in the graph on the left :)

Great job @SittingNextToIt! Sounds like you have found a really sustainable way to make healthy changes! I hope you are feeling lots of benefits!

MontyDonsfrontlawn · 15/02/2025 18:41

Well done! I’ve been at this diet 7 months and only lost a measly 7kg 😂

SittingNextToIt · 15/02/2025 19:02

But that is excellent! My loss has also now slowed to 1 kilo a month and when I think about how long the weight got put ON over, the thought of a calm, gentle, 1 kilo a month over the next year feels like an incredible outcome to me :)

I guess it’s not too bad but it’s been a long 7 months. Maybe it’s just made me grumpy 😂.
Only 3kg to go.

BadgerTart · 22/02/2025 20:15

That’s amazing, well done!

Ohdeardarling · 24/02/2025 10:22

That's amazing well done! Do you have any tips on what foods to have to not struggle on 1200 calories?

I have 4 kilos to lose, and although not huge, it's not buldging whatsoever so I think I'm going to need to be much more disciplined with what I eat.

I keep failing to prepare and then reaching for convenience food.

changethat · 24/02/2025 11:26

Well done. I have followed a similar method to you and yes used MFP free. I've dropped 91 lbs since the end of 2023. From 244lbs to 153lbs (41kg loss). Shout it from the rooftops! You have worked hard to earn the loss, I hope you are feeling much healthier now. It's amazing the difference it really makes. I genuinely hadn't noticed the things that were harder at my bigger weight. It's only now I'm noticing things like shortness of breath and joint pain have lessened so much. I have a further 19lbs to go to hit my goal and am now losing very slowly but steadily. Good luck with the last part of your weight loss too.

brettsalanger · 24/02/2025 11:28

Well done OP.

How have you found such a low calorie allowance? I tried this once and was absolutely bloody starving

Gall10 · 24/02/2025 11:31

Well done!
A calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight….whether you choose weight watchers, slimming world, fasting, Atkins, keto or whatever this years way is. They all promote taking in less calories than you expend through daily living + extra moving around.
Youve done really well to lose this in a sensible way…you’ll look fabulous in the summer! Give yourself a massive pat on the back.

I’ve lost 25kg in 10 months but agree you’ve got to plan ahead & have plenty ‘healthy’ food in the cupboards! There’s plenty ‘convenient’ healthy snacks & meals just look for those with least fat & highest protein. Longley Farm cottage cheese has been my saviour….to those thinking they don’t like cottage cheese they just haven’t discovered Longley Farm yet!

I am ashamed to say that I eased myself into it using the healthiest tastiest ready meals I could find and taking advantage of the fact I never eat breakfast so breakfast became my evening meal.

I am a prolific and very keen cook so I needed a clear start to it and this reset my portions

After two weeks of that - I started MFP with my usual recipes tweake to maximise protein, minerals vitamins and calcium - and this meant cutting out "empty" calories. I'd eat the smalls eggs instead of a pack of crisps - same calories filler longer.

And 8 pints of water a day

I have also started losing weight and hope to achieve the desired result soon.

CaptainOhMyCaptain · 02/03/2025 09:05

Oh well done OP! I’m on the same journey and ready meals do make it easier. Am also South Asian. Was a right kicker when the NHS changed the BMI boundaries, was nearly there and then had another stone to lose….

I am SO jealous of my white DH who despite being only a couple inches taller than me has the standard BMI boundaries and is basically at normal BMI at a weight which for me is apparently obese for south Asians ! I'm a very comfortable size 12 with very loose fitting tops and jeans which despite vanity sizing etc is very hard to accept as obese/highly overweight but there we are !
