Something to replace honey?

I love Fage Greek yoghurt with fruit. I find it filling and low calorie in my deficit. It’s awful on its own so usually I sweeten with a touch of honey. I am just wondering if there is a honey equivalent that won’t bump up my calories? Thanks.

Anything sweet is going to have calories. I wouldn't recommend swapping to artificial sweeteners, I've just given those up completely and two weeks in the differences it has made are amazing.

I think agave syrup or agave nectar, is the equivalent here. It is lower GI but higher in fructose than honey. Similar calories but sweeter so you'd use less than with honey.

1 teaspoon of honey has 21 calories. I would just have the honey. You only need the smallest of drizles of honey as it is so sweet. Much better for you than some weird man made pretend stuff.

I agree with this. I would just be careful to measure a spoonful rather than drizzle from a squeeze bottle and ensure it is real honey. I am not a honey eater but a friend of mine claims that there is fake honey in some supermarkets (no idea if that is true).

I sometimes use cinnamon and/ or dates in Greek yoghurt to make it slightly sweeter.

Geneticsbunny · 14/08/2024 19:11

If you have sweet enough fruit you won't need it. Nectarines are brilliant at the moment.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, replaces honey.

I agree, just measure it out.

Yes, I think some cheaper honeys produced in some countries are adulterated with sugar syrup.

Honey has huge health benefits. Don't replace it!

dbeuowlxb173939 · 14/08/2024 19:39

Just have the honey as PP have said. You could maybe gradually reduce the amount you add so you get used to the less sweet taste

Keep the honey but make sure it's pure. Most supermarket honey is blended shit without the goodness of real honey. Buy straight from a local producer if possible or health food shop. That way they are good calories rather than just pure sugar. Fage yoghurt on its own is lovely so disagree with you there!

Maple syrup is nice

Sushiandunagi · 24/01/2025 23:31

Try SKYR its really nice! I like the vanilla one ☺️👌

ElderLemon · 25/01/2025 09:53

I don't like honey so I use maple syrup. Same calories though. I make sure to measure and then just enjoy it. You can't cut everything nice out.
