Sugar and fat withdrawal symptoms.

After some concerning blood test results I realised working from home I've slipped into the habit over the past couple of years into consuming a lot of sweet treats and cheese. Although the rest of my diet is healthy it's no doubt these are causing an issue.

I've massively reduced both my sugar and sat fat in my diet. For the past few days I've switched to things like zero fat yogurt, reduced fat cheese (and I'm eating hardly any cheese), and from eating about 70g chocolate a day to almost nothing along with no biscuits.

Has anyone else had withdrawal symptoms.

I feel like I have a virus, muzzy in the head, achy ,feeling sick, and bloating.

Yes, it will be the sugar. Personally I'd put some of the fat back.

The good news is that if you can still keep with it for 7-10 days, you stop wanting the sugar, don't even like the idea of it very much and you'll be shocked how much better you feel.

Agree keep the full fat cheese and yoghurt (will still help keep you full) but reduce the amounts you are eating. Try and drink lots of water of course.

Reducing sugar can definitely give you hangover type symptoms, up your water it helps you to feel generally better.

Be careful with reduced fat stuff, it often contains more sugar so will be doing the opposite of what you want. Full fat, natural, less processed is better when it comes to fat. Longley farms full fat cottage cheese is lush completely different to other cottage cheese, full fat Greek yoghurt (not Greek style) with berries or walnuts and a small drizzle of maple syrup is delicious and feels like a treat which can be really good when you're restricting more unhealthy treats.

I've cut my sugar intake dramatically about 3 weeks ago, but haven't noticed any changes except for the number on the scales. I didn't do anything about the fat in my diet though, so maybe that's what makes you feel dizzy?

When I cut out sugar I definitely felt unwell for around a week. Fatigued, headache, flu like.
I was also very dehydrated which will have contributed to my symptoms.

Make sure you drink plenty. It does pass and you end up feeling great.

From my own personal experience of having to suddenly one day two weeks ago adopt a low fat (3%and less) diet, although sad I've not had any withdrawal symptoms. Sugar is a nasty drug though.

By excluding things that aren't filling and are calorie dense whilst not hungry you might be low on energy. Or you might just be on the verge of a cold...
