1000-1200 calories each day is too low isn't it?

After unsuccessfully trying to balance calories and macros myself, I consulted someone for some advice. This person comes highly recommended and helps with meal plans that are tasty whilst also balancing macros and calories.

I am pre-menopausal, 5ft5 and weight fluctuates from 56-59kg. I am not after any significant weight loss - I am comfortable where it is but mainly body recomposition and small amounts of fat loss (I carry more around my stomach than I would like to). Prior to speaking to this coach, I was already strength training, mainly following online programmes and happy with my exercise as well as baseline steps etc (I am active).

The plan this coach has given me consists of 1000-1200 calories each day. I am not dreaming that this is really really low right? When I spoke to them before signing up, it was all about this being a lifestyle choice that allows me to eat out occasionally and socialise. I genuinely can't see how this would be possible without starving myself.

Just want to get some other opinions before I raise my concerns with them please

@confusedaboutcalories you're right, do believe it. I know somebody with a ''certificate'' in nutrition has denied that starvation mode is a thing, but having looked at this research myself, it's all about losing the weight, it's not monitoring what happens when food is reintroduced. Yes, if we cut our calories drastically we lose weight. But the studies that seem to deny ''starvation mode'' aren't and have not measured what happens when you do a diet every three or four years and then your weight creeps back up and then you're back on the conveyor belt.
I know there are people who will swear blind that starvation mode (or metabolic thermogenesis or metabolic adaptation) is not a thing, but it is a thing. Ask a group of 52 year old women Grin I've spent my adult life being ''slim'' and then sliding gradually in to the overweight bracket, then hit play, back on a diet, then I maintain, then I forget to maintain, then I hit play, back on a diet.......... rinse repeat, rinse repeat, but this time it didn't work.

Thank you all and fair point @PinotPony. I have seen some meals which consist of a big bowl of soup and nothing else (around 250cal) and have judged they are unlikely to fill me up based on previous experience. Maybe it can be done with other food groups though, I am leaning towards this person not being a fit for me.

Menopause is going to change it all when it hits - I think I am still at least 5 years before peri-menopause (more likely closer to 10) but paying good attention to my health now and being strong will hopefully prepare me well for any changes I need. I will consider HRT or not when I get there.

@Gensola please send me the details of the nutritionist if you don't mind. I believe a good nutritionist will probably add more value if I go down this route. I saw countless amazing reviews for this coach (from people I know so not falsified) saying how well they eat, always full up, food tastes amazing which made me consider them. I have been clear I am not looking for rapid results so not sure why calories have been cut so much but made me doubt myself
