Weight not coming off!

Spidey66 · 20/07/2022 10:21

So 2 weeks ago I started logging my calories on MFP. i'm very overweight, started at 17st 1 (the shame) at MFP allocated 1580 cals. I'm sticking to it except Monday as that was my birthday.

Many days my calculations are a couple of hundred cals under but I'm leaving it as I suspect sometimes I'm underestimating cals especially for instance cereal, pasta.

The first week I went down to 16st9.5 so 5.5lbs off, so I was chuffed....but this week it's gone up to 16st 12, so it's gone back up 3 lbs. Ok on my birthday I let it ease so I could have pizza, wine and cake in the evening but not enough calories to wipe out the rest of the week and add 3lbs on!

I'm 56, i'm not really clear if I've been through the menopause properly as I had a hysterectomy 7 years ago so obviously no periods since then but no other real symptoms. I've got an underactive thyroid but I'm on thyroxine and I had bloods done 2 months ago and my thyroxine does not need adjusting.

HELP!

I havent read all of the thread but you have to weigh everything per 100g

Dont rely on scanning things in. Lots of the information in any calorie website or app are user provided. If someone gets it wrong (and Ive seen some right clangers on there) then you're getting the wrong calculation for yourself. Search for the food, make sure the result is right and matches what is on the packet of what you're eating and put in how many grams you had

Dont rely on the packaged weight being correct either, just because a bag of crisps says its 25g, it might be 30g, it might be 20 g.

Pasta/rice/bread/potatoes are exceptionally deceptive. A reasonable sized portion is incredibly small and personally those sorts of carbs make me crave food so i try to steer clear most of the time.

You can easily rack up a couple of hundred calories in fruit so be careful about that.

So I’ve weighed myself at work and it appears to have been some kind of fluctuation and I have lost the couple of pounds and them done. I have now lost 7lbs in 3 weeks, which I’m happy with:)

so moving forward will continue measuring my carbs and monitoring what I’m eating:)

Definitely take it slowly and play the long game. Every little thing you do will go some way toward getting you to where you want to be, eventually. Weighing yourself can be either frustrating or motivational, so don't do it too often. If you weigh yourself just one a week, you'll be sure to feel pleased every time.
Losing slowly will also mean you are making lifestyle changes which are more likely to be sustainable long term.

@Spidey66 I just wondered how you are doing following on from your last post?

Spidey66 · 19/08/2022 20:36

It’s getting there!

I bought some measuring pots from Amazon for different food groups. I use the ones for carbs the most. I’m allowed 2 cornflakes for breakfast 😂so yes I’m still eating carbs but I’ve taken the advice on board.

I’ve lost about 10 pounds in about 5-6 weeks. It’s coming off slowly but I suppose that’s the best way!

I had to look up 20 lbs as I'm rubbish at imperial measures, and that's loads! Yay, well done you! Slowly but surely does it. And the time will pass and days will go by and you'll be making your small but significant choices as you go, and before you know it, another 20lbs will have melted off.

Spidey66 · 20/08/2022 09:59

10lbs not 20! I wish!

Still, it's getting towards my first stone. It's a marathon not a sprint.

I'm sorry, don't know where I got 20 from, but it's still brilliant!
As you're so right in saying about the marathon, it doesn't really matter; you're making decisions, and each one is making a difference. I returned from holiday last week, having put a bit back on, but it feels absolutely OK; a tiny blip in the marathon of my own journey, and as I know exactly what to do next, I'm straight back on it and will be back where is was in no time. Very reassuring.

What about rice cakes or crackers (eg cracker breads or ryvita) with hummus or soft cheese? Is that any better than pasta or bread for lunch?

Autumn or winter I’m ok with soup but too hot for that now!

Humous with veg sticks. Carrots, peppers, cucumber, tomatoes
