Calorie restriction while breast feeding

It's been 6 months since my lovely daughter was born. She's EBF and I need to go on a diet because I've been massively comfort/boredom eating. I've actually put on again a lot of the weight I lost after she was born.

I know BF burns about 500 calories a day. I was thinking of restricting to 1800 and have been doing so for two days now. (Which has made me realise I was probably eating about 3500 calories before).

Is this too little while BFing? I'm not in a massive rush but would like to be at my pre baby weight by April 2023, my brothers wedding :)

I really wouldn't start that sort of restrictive diet while BFing. Just try to stop the comfort eating and cut down on snacking, especially on empty calories, and that will probably do the job.

I’m doing this while bf my 13 month old. 1700 a day

Argh. 12 month old. Fat fingers

I restricted way more than that, did 1200 calories a day when my DD was 3 months old. It worked incredibly well, I lost weight quite quickly and it didn't affect my supply at all.

I didn't feel particularly hungry either. Cutting out junk/comfort food made a huge difference, I still ate regularly and massive portions but lots of fruit and veg, oats, lentils etc.

I'm doing the same... started SW in feb when she was 8 weeks but it was too restrictive so started eating 1800 since she was about 12 weeks old. Lost all the baby weight and supply is fine! Not hungry either!

I was using MFP and just saw on another threat nutracheck was recommended so ive just switched over and it's great: it works out your cals and asks if you're pregnant/BF which is great. My cals are now 1785 and jt seems alot more accurate

I did this a year ago with a 9 month old. I started on 2000 a day, and the weight came off quite well. When she was about a year I went down to 1750. I've had a few breaks but that's still my go to calorie level when I do diet (I'm still BFing at night and naps so still need some extra calories). I've lost 5st in just over a year doing this.

I did intend to go back up to 2000 a day if it seemed to affect my milk or leave me starving, so I think you should just maybe consider doing that if it feels like you're getting too little.
