I'm paying a lot to weigh in!!

I'm currently paying £35 each week for products on the 121 diet but to be honest, I'm not 100% following the diet, am eating some of the products but the rest of the time eating low cal and exercising. However what I am paying for is the weekly weigh in, the accountability, the knowledge she could text me at any point and see how I'm doing. This is what stops me from caving mid-week and falling face first into a pie!

But £35 is a LOT to pay each week for that! But I'm scared to stop as I know without that scary weekly weigh in, I'll just succumb. Are there any other cheaper options out there? How do you all keep on the straight and narrow?

If you just want someone to hold you accountable then slimming world is a lot cheaper than £35!!

picklemewalnuts · 25/05/2022 07:51

Agree with PP. You can roll up to slimmingworld, doing a version of their diet if you don't want to do the entire thing, and just pay £6 a week.

Dinoteeth · 25/05/2022 07:51

Slimming world or weight watchers would be cheaper.

But for £35 you could get a session with a personal trainer and throw some fitness stuff into the mix.

MrsMigginsCat · 25/05/2022 07:52

The Nutracheck app for £3.99 a month if you've got the discipline to log everything you eat and weigh in weekly yourself.

Stellaris22 · 25/05/2022 07:57

Slimming World or Weight Watchers would be cheaper, but for accountability you can’t beat a PT. If you’re happy to exercise then you could find one to discuss your goals with.

I much prefer the PT option because even if you fail to lose weight for a bit at least you’re still having the consistency of exercise so improving fitness every week.

Have you got a friend who can play at being the 'diet police' for you?
Many years ago I made the mistake of doing the Herbalife diet as a friend was selling it (having lost a lot of weight on it herself). She used to phone me weekly for a weigh in result and to sell me more products. This was in the days when everyone used a landline. If DS answered the phone he'd shout "Mum, the diet police are on the phone".
If that diet taught me one thing it's that diets don't work! I lost loads of weight but put it all back on again pretty soon afterwards.

I have a nutritionist for £35 a month and use my fitness pal.

I weigh myself at home and use a shared spreadsheet with my nutritionist. They give me macros and calories to stick to and once a fortnight they do a 15 minute video chat to discuss progress and alter macros/calories. They also provide recipe booklets but I don’t often use these.

im losing about a 1lb a week but it’s really manageable and not dieting like if I was in a club or an eating plan. I’m 12 stone now and have an allowance of 1750 calories a day.

Antarcticant · 25/05/2022 08:46

It doesn't work for everyone but I find the way of avoiding the 'scary' weekly weigh-in is to weigh myself every morning. Your weight will fluctuate naturally from day-to-day due to things like fluid retention but it means there are no unpleasant surprises and you quickly spot if the trajectory is going in the wrong direction over several days.

TokenGinger · 25/05/2022 08:49

For £35 a week, I'd re-invest in a PT session and focus on the low calorie foods that you are.

CoreyTaylorsbiggestfan · 25/05/2022 08:55

Team RH is like £60 per year! Have a peep on their Facebook

1idea · 25/05/2022 09:15

I would agree in investing the money in a PT session it will give you the accountability and build fitness whatever your starting level. I started training with a PT early 2020 it has been life changing. Chat to a few and find someone you click with.

Ask a friend to hold you accountable. Preferably someone who also wants to lose weight but any good friend would help.
We formed our own self help group and weighed together every Monday evening. We went for walks together twice a week. We all lost weight.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I like the nutritionist idea too. Can you tell me how you found this person?

just Through googling local nutritionists. I had a free trial with her so could check out her methods before I started.

Moon22 · 04/07/2022 09:14

That is a lot!
I would buy your own scales and spend it on your shopping or gym instead!
I use weightlossresources.com which is a brilliant website. It is a paid site but you can do a free trial and really has everything you need!
I pay £53 every 6 months. It's a bit cheaper if you sign up for the full year. I can give you a code for a weeks free trial if you're interested in it!
