Having lost the weight, I'm now binge eating 😞

Not sure what's going on but having successfully lost 2 stone since the start of January through calorie counting, the last week or so I've just been binge eating constantly. Thousands of calories of bread, chocolate etc.

I was so, so good and disciplined for nearly 3 months and lost 2 stone, my target weight loss was 2.5 stone.

Anyone done something similar? I don't know what is going on in my head. I'm having horrendous cravings for junk, carbs etc. I've just eaten a 200g bar of chocolate and feel really sick Sad

Yes I did exactly this about 15 years ago, although I’d lost 4 stone not 2. It was the start of a lot of misery for me and I’d really recommend getting some help before it becomes an eating disorder.

The charity BEAT are excellent.

Good luck

You're in the restrict binge cycle so whatever you do don't panic and restrict again - your brain needs to know your body can have food.

Hi, yes I did this last year. Save as you started in January, lost 2 stone. Then around June though, ah few cakes won’t hurt. Before you know it I’ve it all back on and am starting over this week.

I think I became obsess with weight loss then totally burnt out and binged massively.

Please stop now before your back to square one.

Lost 8 stone to go from a size 18 to a 6 at 5'10 done slowly.
I needed to put weight on as my BMI was 15. I did this slowly but I have put on 4 stone not 2.5. All binge eating after 5 years of being underweight.
Incidentally my BMI is 24 on the nose. But I have recognised it and am back to daily weighing which I hope will keep me accountable.

I did this last year. Lost nearly two stone in six months by calorie counting and exercising. Then put a stone and a bit of it back on over the next six months by not denying myself anything.

I am determined not to do the same again. I’ve lost a stone and am nearly at my 2021 low but I’m determined to keep losing weight or to not gain at the very least.

At least you’re noticing what you’re doing. I sort of ignored it all.

Look at the 'why we eat' book. It's good at this.

I'm wrestling with similar, essentially your body is sending powerful hormones to get you to eat, because it's concerned about potential famine situation.

Reduce the carbs and increase the protein, fats and vegetables. Your body will register that food is no longer scarce, and adjust.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm sorry to hear others have done the same, although reassured in a way.

I'll have a think about what to do to get out of the cycle I'm in. I've had a lot of success low carbing in the past but I'm breastfeeding at the moment so have tried to keep up oats, lentils, fruit, potatoes etc while calorie counting in order to keep a good milk supply. I've also really gone off meat since being pregnant, which was a staple of my low carb diet in the past!

Thanks again.

I'd suggest stopping counting protein, fruit and veg at all.
Count wheat/sugar and keep it low.

Franticbutterfly · 25/03/2022 20:31

I do this EVERY time. I don't even know why.

Calandor · 25/03/2022 22:23

I became bulimic after losing 2 stone in 2 months. The restriction sent me into a weird spiral of binge and guilt.

Allow yourself to have treats and know you can have them.

Seek therapy.

I guess this is classic yo yo dieting, isn't it? You lose weight successfully when your mind is 'in the zone' but at some point your body protests and you end up in a feeding frenzy, or at the very least, unable to maintain the weight loss. It's happened to me many times, I'd love to know if there's an answer...

MushroomHunter · 26/03/2022 17:58

I seem to do this at certain time of the year. In winter I fatten you and then once the spring hits I go on a diet again. For me it’s a cycle of starve/binge. I am a very emotional eater so that doesn’t help either.

Bobbinsbop · 14/07/2022 10:30

I do the exact same I’ve spent years yo yo dieting.
im an emotional eater and struggle with depression so it’s not an easy mix. I know binge eating makes me feel shit, but I always go back to it.
I am calorie counting again from today.
I keep reading that it’s not good and part of the toxic diet culture but 2 months of trying to eat intuitively and I’ve gained a stone, so I clearly can’t do that!
I think for me I have to exercise alongside (which I never keep up with) as it improves my mental health and so makes the emotional eating less.
