Calorie-counting

How many calories in Indian takeaway?

As a rough estimate (yes I have MFP but the search results vary massively)

Last night I ate:

A quarter tray of coconut rice, half a vegetable masala, half a garlic naan bread and a little onion Bhaji. I’ve estimated around 730 calories for the lot, do you think this sounds about right?

Honestly, I’d go around 1500! The volume of oil used is way more than at home. The bhaji would have been deep fried and is prob 300-40” on its own. 300 for rice, 350-400 for the naan. Then the curry, likely in ghee?

Like the PP has said, I'd expect much higher than that. Indian takeaways use a lot of fat.

A lot! 300-400 for the rice (coconut milk is laden), 300 for the naan, 250 for the bhaji, and at least 500 for the curry depending on the size of the pot (oil, cream and nuts all massive contributors in a masala). Better to over estimate and eat less over the next week. At least you are aware and one takeaway isn't going to hurt, and if you would normally have eaten the lot rather than half portions, then that is a huge step in the right direction.

1200 for the portion you had, as even though you only ate half, masala is really high calorie.

I think you just have to write it off as a bad night OP!

There are so many cals. I just don't bother mostly because it isn't worth the cals for me.

Coconut rice is really calorific and portion sizes can be big at restaurants too. Just normal boiled rice is about 200 so I'd say 400 for the rice, 300 for the naan bread (it's over 300 for the tiny ones you buy in the supermarket), 200 for the bhaji and about 500 for the curry.
