Is there no hope of losing weight if I’m not sleeping properly?

I have a 6 month old who wakes between 2-4 times in the night. Mostly for a feed. I’m trying to lose around 2 stone of baby weight before I get married this year. Calorie counting and exercise is the best route for me but I’ve been reading a lot about metabolism slowing down when you aren’t getting enough sleep. I’m averaging 5-7 hours a night (my partner takes over in the morning so I can sleep).

Does anyone have any experience of weight loss with broken sleep?

I know I shouldn’t be stressing about losing weight but I’ve made the most of the last 6 months and now want to feel comfortable in my clothes again 😊

Yes, I lost baby weight after all 3 of my children and DS2 was a terrible sleeper, still waking 2-3times a night at 18 months old. It didn’t affect weight loss, well maybe it did but I still lost it, maybe I’d have lost it sooner had I slept better but I walked a lot more and counted calories. One thing that’s hard though is less fuel when you’re exhausted so don’t cut more than 500 cals a day

Also 7hrs is good! I get around 7.5hrs most nights as I’m up at 5.45 and consider that good. 5hrs not as much

I eat more if I’m tired, so not sleeping indirectly makes me put on weight.

Can you do some exercise? That should up your metabolism.

Thanks for your replies 😊
Yes 7 hours is the dream night. So good to know my efforts won’t go to total waste.
Yep I’m exercising 3 days a week doing peloton classes and going for walks on as many days as I can. Going to also add in some weight training too as they seemed to work well for me before.
