Calories in Indian Takeaway

I'm trying to lose weight through calorie counting. Most days I do around 1400 calories but I'm counting on a weekly basis so I can have the occasional blowout with my family.

Having a curry tonight and I don't know where to begin with counting the calories... I'll be having a lamb passanda, mushroom rice (half carton) and a saag paneer.

Any ideas??

Is your choice cast in stone? Lamb is more calorific than say chicken and a passanda is quite creamy. Rice isn’t the best option either I’m afraid! Dry dishes like chicken tikka are lower calorie with maybe a vegetable Bhaji instead of rice.

Something like shaslik or tikka without sauce will be less calorific. Or, have what you normally order and cut your calories the rest of the day or in coming days to allow for it.

Alternatively just accept it's going to take longer to lose weight if you have one meal like that.

Rice is fine - if it's not plain pilau it's likely to have quite a bit of ghee with it. Maybe cut your portion size a bit.

You've chosen just about the worst thing on the menu...

If you want to stick to it dry tikka and salad is your best option. If nit, just have the bloody curry!

Just realised both me and the pp haven't actually answered your question - you're trying to figure out the calories in the meal. Do you have the My Fitness Pal app? If not download it for free. You'll be able to find the dishes in there and get a good idea of the calories in them.

Sounds like lots of calories
When I was losing weight my healthy Indian order was : chicken tikka , chapati , Dahl and sag bhaji * shared with ex dp .delicious, I want it now !

1100 calories in total. Download my fitnesspal. It's has calories for everything.

helentomelon · 28/08/2021 16:51

Oh I know about what's lower in calories and not but if I'm having it I might as well have what I want. I'm not spending £50 to sit there with a bit of dry chicken Grin

So yeah, that's what I'm having, I just want to be able to track it because I've committed to tracking everything.

Haha yes thanks 😊 I'm the kind of person I'd rather not have a treat if I'm going to deprive myself of what I really want. I dont see the point in it. Saying that, I'd usually have naan and popadums and a Bhaji too so I have picked the bits i truly enjoy and cut back on the rest
