Hello

My husband and I are quite overweight and about to ebbing a calorie counting diet. We're amid setting up our diet plans.

We have two small children, 2.5 years old and 9 months. Our life is just a tad hectic.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone can help with 'fast low cal' snacks or at least tips? Things like cheese strings and babybel are fridge staples for us. Sort of looking for stuff we could eat whilst keeping some normality.

Thank you

Xx

I too am calorie counting at the moment. I have cut down on fats and carbs. I opt for fruit as a between meal snack, or some veg sticks with houmous.
I've been using the noom app to track my calories and learn how to change my mindset about food. I have lost over a stone in 8 weeks, and I've still had treats (takeaway, mcds and ice cream)
Good luck!!

Hi! I am here for ideas too, I'm in a similar boat to you, me and DH are several stone overweight. We have a 2.5 year old and 5 month old. I'm using MFP to track, I worked out my calorie allowance using James Smith's calculator. I never know what meals to have, mainly for lunches and snacks. I'm still on maternity leave for another couple of months so I know I need to get stuck in now as I am the heaviest I've ever been 😭 good luck with your weight loss

I'll share some of my meals, which might help you, or inspire you... I also have a DS aged 3, so try to keep meals similar to what the rest of the family eat, can't be cooking lots of different things.

Breakfasts... various fruit/berries and 0%fat Greek yog, or boiled egg and brown bread soldiers (1 slice) scrambled egg on brown toast, flora light spread. Eggy bread too, using frylight. Measured portion of cereal and milk. All of the above DS will eat with me.

If I eat bread for breakfast, I won't have it for lunch, so will have salad with couple of spoons mixed tinned beans, couple of spoons of cous cous, and either tuna, ham, boiled egg or cheese... tesco do a 50% less fat cheddar, which is actually quite nice! Or, ham/cheese/tuna salad sandwich on brown bread. Cup a soups are quite filling and low calorie too.

Weigh out all your carbs and meat... its surprising on the portion front, which was my biggest downfall..overeating! I have quickly got used to eating less!

Hope that helps, even just a little bit. Good luck, you can do this!

One wholemeal santa-maria wrap (112 calories) - make one cut from the centre to the edge. One slice of leerdammer light (52 cals) arranged in one quarter and then fold it over 3 times to make a (sort of triangle). Bung it in the toaster. Eat it with a few cherry tomatoes and a carrot. Lovely.

Also, hippeas sweet-and-smokin for a crisps fix. 62 cals of properly crunchy flavour.

Also, get to know your ‘danger’ times. I’m fine in the morning and not so hungry, so fruit and yogurt is enough. But the afternoons are trickier, so I split lunch into two parts, 1pm and 4pm, which helps with the snacking.

Apologies, really should have done all this in one post. In my cupboards are Metcalfe and Propercorn popcorn snack packs, and skinny whip/crunch bars from the pound shop, and in the freezer are low-cal ice lollies. Everything under 100 cals.

Good luck!

Helpful thread! I've just added leerdammer light to my shopping list.

100 and under cal snacks are a really good thing to keep in so you don't feel completely deprived.
Mars do a 95 cal bar that's long and thin and I can almost convince myself I've had a proper mars bar.
Ringos salt and vinegar are around 60 calories a multipack pack.

I just find it hard to stick to 1.
