Low calorie, low carb at an Indian restaurant

I want to get a curry, onion bhaji and poppadoms.

Buuuut, I also don't want to see a rise on my blood glucose meter or my scales tomorrow.

What would you order?

When I was doing serious low carbing I'd order the chicken shashlick - the one that is cubes of chicken cooked on a skewer with no sauce at all. I'd have a green salad on the side.

Paneer with spinach is also low carb. I like the ones that come with cubes of paneer best. I can't bear the ones they describe as 'cottagecheese' on the menu.

Avoid red meat, go for fish, chicken or daahl.

Onion bhaji and poppadoms are deep fried, there's no getting away from that.

Drop the rice and get a roti instead.

Ahh my suggestion was going to be chicken tikka with salad.

Can you have a night off calorie counting ? I would say go and have the curry, enjoy, and then be sensible in the week to make up for it, if that’s an option?

I wasn't going to have naan or rice, I might ask for a curry with no wheat in case they put that in as a thickener & little fat and have it with cauliflower. Half a poppadom and 1 bhaji. I can let the calories go for one night, I haven't eaten anything else today and I have fasted for 24hrs by the time we eat.

That should be ok I reckon?

Poppadoms are made with lentil flour and aren't high carb. Avoid the bhaji, naan, rice, potato dishes. Often if you speak to staff they will make a dish with less oil if you request it. If you go for a tomatoey dish (dopiaza, bhuna, rogan josh) with only a little oil and have it with chicken or prawns you should be ok. Obviously avoid korma, masala, butter chicken etc.

I decided to sod the calories but stay as low carb as I could while still having what I wanted. It's my 40th so I decided to be a bit less strict.

I had ONE poppadom and dips, no mango chutney though.
An onion bhaji.
A lamb curry. No rice or naan.
Vegetable curry as the side, the other choices were chickpeas, potatoes or dal.
Then they put mango sorbet in front of us and I did have a bit, but it was tiny, probably only 2 tablespoons.
Then when they offered the liquor at the end, I had a baileys.

So not the best, but not the worst either.
