I've been doing CC for 5 days and doing really well but I miss binge eating on jaffa cakes, ice cream and chocolate biscuits. I am massive so got a long way to go and at the moment it just doesn't seem worth it. Please tell me the benefits of losing weight.

Sex is better/easier/bendier!

You can buy clothes online or without trying them on and mostly they fit and look nice. It’s much easier.

You can wear what you WANT to wear and what demonstrates your actual personal style and personality, rather than what hides your tummy, bum, thighs, etc.

You feel proud of yourself every day.

When someone you haven’t seen for a while suggests meeting up, you don’t feel like, “oh god, I’m so much bigger than I was when they last saw me”.

You don’t sweat much! I really noticed that in the summer.

Coated beans don’t make a smooshing noise when you’re walk, because your thighs aren’t touching.

I lost 4.5 stone doing WW recently and honestly, I feel so much better. Just much, much more in control of every part of my life.

Go for it!! You’ll never regret losing weight.

Coated jeans! 😂

Less chance of suffering a premature death?

LizziesTwin · 21/05/2021 09:16

Less likely to need hip or knee replacement. Less likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes.
Less likely to develop heart disease.
Less likely to develop breast cancer.

More likely to enjoy going somewhere with fixed seat size like the theatre, a plane, theme park.
More likely to accept invitations to picnics or walks in the country.
More likely to enjoy going to playgrounds or swimming with children.

It isn’t easy but who said life was easy? Life is hard and you need to be strong and fit to make the most of it. There is nothing wrong with being physically strong & fit, it’s good.

Chasingsquirrels · 21/05/2021 09:19

For me, the back problems I'd been suffering with eased considerably, which was a massive benefit.

I'd never thought about it before but the sweating less now is also true.

Plus all the other longer term health benefits which aren't immediate.

LizziesTwin · 21/05/2021 12:54

Thought of another one:

If binge eating worked to cure anything it would be prescribed, so it doesn’t.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 21/05/2021 13:18

I’ve started losing weight (again - bloody lockdown) and the thing I loved when I was smaller Is how I sat in the car seat better and it was just comfier.

And clothes. I hate buying clothes. I like fitting what I have.

elliejjtiny · 21/05/2021 13:35

Thankyou everyone. It's really helpful to be reminded that it's not meant to be easy. With all the dieting adverts telling you that it's really easy and you can still eat all your favourite foods (if your favourite foods are sugar free jelly or you want to use up half your daily calories on a bar of chocolate) I sometimes think I must be doing it wrong. I stepped on the scales today and I have lost 6lb already which is brilliant but that's like a small newborn baby that I've been carrying around and I don't feel any different.

Another thing to remember is that you are choosing to do this for you. For no one else. Because your happiness and health are really important and you need to look after yourself because no one else can. 💐

I'm in my 50s and since my 40s at least I've had a lot of problems with painful feet after standing for a while or going on walks. For the first time in several years I've got down to an overweight BMI rather than obese, currently 2st lower than my highest weight. I'm going on regular walks and I'm not suffering much foot pain any more. That's a huge quality of life improvement. Plus I went to an outdoor party on Saturday, ate more unhealthy snacks than I have done in the last year and had acid reflux and stomach ache afterwards. It struck me that those kinds of symptoms were commonplace in the past. I used to like regular takeaways, supersized bags of crisps etc but would physically feel like shit afterwards. It's not worth it, but it's harder to see the difference when you haven't made changes. I've seen obesity related issues catch up with quite a few friends or family members sooner or later, in terms of mobility or related conditions. Whatever your age is now, it tends to have an impact eventually.

It is hard, the first week or two. It gets easier, much more routine as your regular foods start to show up in searches (if you're using MFP). Chances are that you'll feel motivated to carry on by then.

lazylinguist · 24/05/2021 16:53

Less chance of chronic disease, cancer, joint pain, immobility, heart attack, stroke, diabetes and premature death. How can that not be worth it? And that's aside from the mental and aesthetic reasons. Do you have dc, OP? If so, presumably you'd like to still be there as they get older?

thecatwithnoeyes · 24/05/2021 16:58

Less chance of being fobbed off by your doctor. That's where I'm at. Literally doing it to be listened to.

elliejjtiny · 24/05/2021 21:48

Thankyou everyone. 9 pounds gone this week Grin

@elliejjtiny

That’s fantastic. You’ve obviously found your groove with it. It’s very “othering” to be plus size. I’ve lost 2 stone and was recently able to fit into a size 14 dress probably for the first time in 10 years. I realised at that point that I had been a bit on the outside looking in.

RubyGoat · 25/05/2021 09:43

Your feet & joints will hurt less.
Better blood sugar control as you stop eating crap - less mood swings.
Better skin. Eating lots of sugar isn't good for the skin.
Lower food bill. Or, you can keep your food bill the same but buy nicer /better quality stuff.

CookPassBabtridge · 25/05/2021 10:12

To know that you're treating your body right, especially after covid when we know the risks of being big
You don't stand out and get stared at
You don't have to constantly adjust clothing
You get treated better by people, both men and women
Not at the toilet as much
Don't panic about social invites
Say yes more
To be able to walk without sweating or breathing hard
Can express your personality through clothes, which makes you feel more you
Sex is much better
People don't have to squeeze past you in shops
You don't dread photos
Have more photos with kids
Sleep is much better without a stomach full of crap
Waking up is easier as you're not groggy from a night of carbs
It's nice to feel attractive again
You don't feel the shame of wearing your addiction, you can't hide a food addiction like smoking, drinking etc
Feel feminine again with defined boobs, hips, bum etc rather than shapeless
Feel that you can eat in public and not be embarrassed
Feel in control
Just feel that you can live your life and enjoy everything without thinking about your weight constantly!

I know the struggle.. I'm a binge eater and food is amazing. But there are not many pluses to eating whatever I want and many negatives. I lost 9 stone in 9 months and kept it off Smile I still let myself indulge every now and then but I do have to limit myself.
