Looking for meal ideas for DD 20 who is ravenous when she is home from work and inclined to snack after her tea. Trying in cook healthy so it is something she can maintain. Also any lunch ideas that don't need heating up and not too messy to eat. She currently has a lot of chicken or prawn salads for lunch but is getting bored of them. Also any breakfast ideas that are not yoghurt or porridge based. Any ideas appreciated.

She's 20, she's an adult, she should be taking responsibility for feeding and cooking for herself. Let her work it out.

tipOver · 20/05/2021 09:32

I would agree with PP that she's old enough to figure it out herself. One meal suggestion though is roast veggies, quite quick and easy and filling. I've been eating them every day recently!

How unhelpful, we eat as a family with all having input into meal planningg, I was only asking for suggestions. And she doesn't like roasted vegetables.

Fair enough. Jacket potatoes are great, we eat those very often. Any kind of pasta, super filling and you can get wholemeal pasta which is a lot healthier. Soups are very diverse and filling.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Is she on Instagram? There’s lots of people posting meal ideas/meal plans following a slimming world style approach. Some delicious ideas.

Omelette/frittata With veg/ham/chicken etc
Stir fry’s
Pasta in tomato based sauce lots of veg lean meat tuna etc
Curry with veg plain rice
Marinated chicken with pitta or rice etc
‘Chips’ made using frylight in oven nice side dish for meals or maybe invest in actifry as could do more meals then.

Definitely check Instagram - so many ideas!

Soup as a starter (home made, veg based)
Fruit and sugar free jelly to end meal

Maybe worth her having a snack (if possible obviously) mid afternoon to stop that real ravenous feeling come dinner? Fruit/veg sticks/boiled eggs etc

OP: it's not unhelpful at all. You eat as a family, fine, so she has her meals with you. But if she wants to take lunch to work, or snack in the evening, it's up to her to sort herself out. She's a working adult, so why are you posting threads on forums about what to feed her?! If she's hungrier, give her bigger portions at dinner time. After that, it's up to her.

Roasted vegetable wholewheat pasta.
Roasted veggie frittata.
French toast & bacon.
Sweet potato baked & beans.
I second her looking at Insta & Pinterest.

She does 'sort herself out' I was only asking for suggestions to pass on to her.

I would suggest more protein, its very filling. She could have cold salmon flaked on her lunch salad or thin strips of cold beef. Add hard boiled eggs to breakfast. The other thing that keeps you fuller longer is fiber. Try switching to whole wheat pasta, brown rice, brown bread, add lentils and chickpeas to stews and pasta dishes or serve on the side to stir in for those that wish. Most ingredients have a fiber content on the ingredients panel so that you can compare and get an idea of the huge differences there are

I've recently started having falafel in a wrap with tonnes of salad. Really fills me up so don't need to snack until dinner

Imtoooldforallthis · 20/05/2021 11:55

Great we are both going shopping Saturday so will stock up on the wholemeal stuff, she is also gluten intolerant so that doesn't help. Might make some falafels as well

If you google Jamie Oliver spinach pancakes you’ll find a really lovely and very filling recipe for pancakes filled with cottage cheese served with avocado and cherry tomatoes. It’s really nice.

Agree with the falafel - they are really filling! We sometimes have them in toasted pittas with dips.

Baked potatoes with cottage cheese.

Boiled eggs are good snacks and quite filling.

Spanish omelette with crusty bread and salad

Greek yogurt with berries and a drizzle of honey as a dessert is nice and filling.

Eggs for breakfast in lots of ways - poached with smashed avocado on sourdough, scrambled with smoked salmon and a dollop of hollandaise or just good old boiled eggs on toast. The protein should help her feel full

Verbena87 · 27/05/2021 20:20

If she’s struggling to maintain her weight then dress everything with olive oil, sprinkle toasted chopped nuts and seeds on things, and drink whole milk in place of some of her water (did this to get up to healthy weight after a period of anxiety where I was too anxious to eat and just shrunk)

If it’s that she wants to feel full without eating more calories I think previous suggestions of protein and fibre are probably good.

malificent7 · 08/09/2021 08:19

If she is gluten intolerant could she do low carb? So courgetti instead of pasta?
Stirfry and salmon
Brocilli with low carb cheese sauce
Omelette
Hunter chicken with veg
Egg moyonaise
Coronation chicken
Chicken and veg or tofu Kebabs with fry light
