How many calories should I be eating?

Really keen to try calorie counting. Have about a stone and a half to loose. However, Nutracheck said I should be eating 1315, an online calculator 1593 and another online calculator 1497...how am I meant to know how many to eat?! Thanks in advance.

1315 sounds very low to stick to consistently. I’d start with 1600 for a couple of weeks. Once you’re used to it you could then shave off another 50 at a time if you feel comfortable with going stricter and like you can stick to it.
I find if I go too strict then 2 weeks later I’m eating a tub of cookie dough ice cream...

Depends completely on your weight and height! The NHS BMI calculator online gives quite a good idea, after its told you your BMI it gives a calorie range for weightloss.

If you're 5ft1 it'll be very different than if you're 5ft9.

For reference I'm 5ft8 and 14 stone, so I have about 3 stone to lose to be healthy. I'm losing 2lbs a week eating 1900 cals a day.

Google tdee calculator and enter all the information you have to hand on there. And then it gives you the necessary calories for weight loss, gain or maintenance relative to your BMR. Lots of calorie apps give something like 1200cals which is low and when starting unsustainable. For example
My numbers are maintenance 1790 and my loss at 1290 which is 1lb per week. I’ve been doing this consistently for months so 1290 for me is about enough now, if I’m really hungry then I splurge occasionally but nothing everyday.
It’s a marathon not a sprint and once you start calorie counting you start to understand what amount of calories certain things have so it gets easier without having to constantly track or weight foods.

How tall are you?

I'm 5.4 and have to stay under 1300 or I gain. But I'm 37. 10 years ago I could eat loads more.

The calculators don't always get it right. I am on around 1760 with MFP. I'm 57 but fairly tall. With that calculation I am meant to lose only 0.5lb a week. I have lost a stone in 10 weeks. I know at least one other calculator suggested around 1600 and I'd probably lose faster but feel more restricted and grumpy. At least MFP let you adjust the calorie goal, I don't know about others.

Take your goal weight in pounds and multiply by 12. That way you'll have slow and manageable weight loss.

They all sound low unless you're short and sedentary. I'm 5'4 and middle aged, with a bmi of 24 point something and lose steadily on 1800.

Also, is that stone and a half to be not overweight or to look more pleasing to yourself?

I use Nutracheck and didn't think they recommended eating under 1400 as it's not sustainable.

I'm 5ft 3 - 2.5st to lose and get 1766 calories p/day on Nutracheck (I do seperate burn calories though)
