1600+ calories a day but feeling weak!

Started MFP a week ago and opted for a slow but steady approach. Just the act of logging everything has reduced my calorie intake (incessant snacking) significantly and I've lost 2kg. MFP recommended 1450 but I've been eating way more than that (up to 2000) and still feeling starving hungry and weak? Is this normal? Have I been eating so badly in lockdown that my body is now 'expecting' a huge calorie surplus? Or maybe cutting back on sugary snacks is affecting blood glucose. Interested in experience of others.

The most likely reason. I can think of is that you've cut carb and you're body is not used to it. I had the same thing, felt absolutely awful for a week and a half then all of a sudden I felt fine, in fact I felt great with more energy.

Look up Keto flu and carb withdrawal. Generally the advice is to make sure you have some good fats in your diet, plenty of green veg for fibre and if you've gone too low on the carbs add small amounts of complex carbs like rye grain bread back in.

I'm trying this approach too, but keep failing.... I think in two weeks time, you will not feel this hunger as you will have adjusted to the amount of calories

Butternutsqoosh · 01/04/2021 07:06

What food are you eating? Have you done a specific macro split? Are you exercising too?

AuntieStella · 01/04/2021 07:09

You're just getting used to it. Hang in in there, and you'll adjust

(PS: remember that it's normal to feel hungry for a while before meals. It's not an urge that has satisfied the instant you fist notice it)

redcandlelight · 01/04/2021 07:17

first of all: it is normal to feel hungry before mealtime.
secondly, a large drop in calorie intake takes a couple of weeks to adjust to.

good luck.

Thanks all. I am eating a fairly normal split of carbs, protein etc. I have been doing some Gousto meals. I don't want to do anything drastic which is not sustainable. I have dieted more strictly in the past and stopped feeling hungry fairly quickly. Maybe the softly softly approach is fooling my body into expecting the usual snackathon. Will hang in there Smile

It will pass. It is the body being a drama llama over less calories. I was freezing first week for some reason but I was on 1700🤷🏻 It passed and everything was ok after that.

Make sure you get your vitamins and minerals in and eat well. I found vitamin c, the one you dissolve in a water, a great energy boost in that time. Just the cheapo ones are absolutely fine.

Pps are right with the hunger. It will subside too but not completely because it is really normal to be hungry before meals.

Sweetener12 · 02/04/2021 10:08

Yeah, it will pass, your body is just adjusting to the new calorie level Flowers

Tagagzjskva · 04/04/2021 14:49

Maybe take a multivitamin supplement too, I found I wasn’t getting as much (not that I was getting enough before - but more due to eating much more) x
