Feeling deflated

I'm using the NHS 12 week app to keep a count of my calories and just finished my first week.

I've put on 3 stone in the past year but really I need to be losing around 4 to get back to a healthy and comfortable weight.

I really felt I had gave it a good effort last week, sticking to my calorie allowance, a bit below it most days. Cutting down carbs considerably. Enjoying what I was eating well enough. Up'ed activity a good bit.

I've only lost a pound. Now I know a pound is a pound but I'm gutted. Given I have a fair bit to lose I thought I'd have lost a bit more. This is when, in the past, I've given up. I really can't afford to give up. My health is suffering and I need to get back to a healthy weight.

Any tips, hints, encouragement or advice will be very gratefully received.

TIA

A pound is great! Well done!

At this rate in a year's time you will be half a stone away from your four stone target and you will have done it slowly and sensibly.

Well done, you, A pound is a pound!

That’s the equivalent of two blocks of butter removed from your middle!

If you look at the 1lb a Week thread you will find many people who have lost stones and stones in a healthy, sustainable slow and steady way. (Me included)

Don’t give up because you feel it isn’t enough, celebrate your achievement and look forwards to more next week.

Also celebrate the healthy impact you are having on your body.

Keep a strict eye on snacking and portion size, keep up or introduce exercise because it is healthy and the endorphins keep you upbeat- brisk walking is fine.

You made a good start Smile

Keep going! Rome wasn't unbuilt in a day

Well, slow weight loss is better for you then rapid weight loss - you might be at a point in your cycle where you put on a lot of water weight and will see a sharp drop.

You may also slowly be building muscles too - sometimes change is more noticeable over time through measurements rather than just weight.

Weigh a pound. Go on. You'll feel
It's not nothing! That's the sort of steady weight loss which is great and what I achieved with Slimming World (and kept off).
Weight takes years to pile on and if it takes months to comfy, well that's a win isn't it?!
Well done x

Come off not comfy!

Exactly what pps have said, a pound is a good start. It's the right direction. I understand that sometimes in our first week, we want more ( probably because it happened the first time you 'dieted'), but I don't think our bodies are that straight forward.

Keep going, stay positive and list ( mentally or write down), your non scale victories. Do you feel better, have more energy, any clothes looser, or can you just be proud of yourself for taking the bull by the horns and tackling it ?
Don't give up, keep going. Some weeks you probably won't think you've lost and the scales will surprise you. (But if you give up, you'll never know).

Thank you all very much, this is the encouragement I needed. You're all good people for taking the time to help out a stranger. Good advice too.

@RainingBatsAndFrogs I'll look up the 1lb a week thread, thank you.

@scentedgeranium I have just weighed a pound and you're absolutely right, it's not insignificant.

I lost quite a bit of weight a few years ago and I remember feeling quite excited when I stepped on the scales after week 1. Everyone had been telling me to expect a big loss and as I had been really good, I was quite excited. I lost 1.5lbs and I was furious!!! However, I told myself not to get too hung up on week one and to give it a full month before giving up. The following week I didn’t actually stick to my diet quite as diligently and lost 4lbs! After the month was up I had lost 8lbs and decided I would stick it out. I lost 1-2lbs a week for months until I reached my target weight and I am so glad I kept it up. It was boring at times but so worth it.

CharlieSays13 · 22/03/2021 12:23

Finished week 2 and I've lost 2 lbs this week, which I'm very pleased about. I'm going to come back and post every week for no other reason than to keep me honest and accountable to myself.

Taking in all the advice I've already received I'll work away for the 12 weeks and see where I get to at the end of it.

Thanks again to all who commented

That's great. Well done. Imagine a pound a week now and you've dropped a stone, which will make you feel much better.

CharlieSays13 · 05/04/2021 12:38

I've completed 4 weeks and lost 6lbs which I'm pleased with. It looks like slow and steady is working for me.
