New to calorie counting - any top tips?

I’ve started on MFP, am on day 10. Had looked at it previously and thought it looked like too much hard work but now getting into the swing! I don’t have loads to lose (a stubborn 8 pounds) and am 2 down so far. Daily calorie goal of 1400 which I’m managing to stay well within. After reading through this board, it seems it’s best to not eat back exercise calories which makes sense. I did yesterday as I really, really needed it Grin. Which brings me onto my question:

How do you ensure you stay full and satisfied? I struggled yesterday with feeling quite “empty” so really enjoyed my homemade fajitas and small wine last night! It was, however, 900 calories so not something I can do often. I want to get into the habit of good filling food choices.

I’ve already worked out that lots of flavour helps me, but any other tips would be so appreciated.

I’ve done SW before but really like counting actual calories rather than “free foods/syns”. My hope being it can be a mindset change.
Thank you!

Meant to add-any tips in general either on calorie counting or MFP would be great!

My only one is don’t eat back any exercise calories. I think it’s to easy to over estimate how much you’ve burnt off.
When I calorie count I also try and reduce carbs a little especially toast and cereal as they are my downfall and make me hungrier!

Thank you @SnarkyBag. I’ve cut back on the carbs a bit and realised how much I was eating before. Do you mind me asking what you have for breakfast? I’m in such a cereal/toast rut. I do have eggs but feel two eggs on their own isn’t filling enough.

I will have a bagel thin (135 Cals) low fat Philadelphia (33 cals) and smoked salmon (100 cals)
I know the bagel is carbs but with the cream cheese and salmon it’s very filling and it’s the only bready carbs I’ll eat all day.
