How many calories

I’m petite framed, but overweight and would like to lose a stone and a half before reevaluating and potentially aiming for another half stone if I feel I need to.

I’m moderately active, but it’s all slow stuff rather than fat burning cardio etc or working out.

How many calories would you suggest I aimed for?

It depends on your height, weight and how active you currently are..

You can find calculators online that you input your height and weight and also how active you are (work in a job where you sit down or stood up all day etc.. How much you walk)
It will then calculate for you how many you should be eating x

800

middleager · 22/02/2021 11:06

I'm 5ft 1 and 47. I don't exercise. Weight comes off slowly.
I have to aim for 1200-1300 cals a day to lose 1lb a week.

Funfacts99 · 22/02/2021 11:07

My Fitness Pal works this out for you I think! I don't know how accurate it is though.

SnuggyBuggy · 22/02/2021 11:08

Depends on your circumstances too. I'm postpartum so I'm going a bit slower than I'd like as I'm scared of saggy skin. When I was in my 20s I could get away with losing weight faster.

StripedSalamander · 22/02/2021 11:11

I’m mid 30s. No babies. 5ft 1.

I’ll have a look at the calculators.

800 seems very low given 2000 is cited as for maintaining?

For what it's worth I'm only slightly taller and according to my fitbit if I don't move all day my basal rate is about 1600. If I get my 10000 steps it goes up to 2000.

middleager · 22/02/2021 11:18

800 calories is very low. I did it for a while when I was 30, no children and lost 2lbs a week. It was miserable though.

I would aim for 1200 given your height, age and frame. I have maintained 1300 since Jan, with a day off within reason every Saturday, and lost half a stone. No food excluded.

1boo1 · 22/02/2021 11:48

800 is awfully low and would make you ill. Most nutritionists will say no less than 1200. And that's only in cases where its safe due to height and weight etc. 1200/1300 as above says might be about right but definitely check the calculators to make sure. You don't want to really undereat and then feel rubbish with no energy

MisgenderedSwan · 22/02/2021 11:52

Look on google for a BMR calculator. I'm 5ft, low active and about 75kg at the moment. It says to maintain I need about 2130 so to lose I aim for about 1600. I also aim to have a decent protein and fibre intake and drink plenty of water.

crystalcherry87 · 22/02/2021 11:57

I am a few stone overweight. I aim for around 1500 to 1700 a day to lose weight, but it really depends on your height and weight and how many calories you consumed to begin with. I probably ate over 2500 a day before dieting. I don't calorie count but I follow slimming world and I find that naturally gives me a calorie deficit without me overthinking it and a steady weight loss.

Sally872 · 22/02/2021 11:58

I am the same height and getting decent weight loss 1.5-2lb per week at 1300 cals and ensuring I get 10,000 steps per day. (Previously 2000 since lockdown) I hope to get to 15000 steps per day to give a little more room for treats at weekend.

It is manageable if I am careful. High intensity work outs will burn calories faster but they aren't essential walking also counts. Follow Richie Howie, Team RH fitness on Facebook for good advice.

Sally872 · 22/02/2021 12:08

Also focusing on drinking 8 glasses of water is helping me stop snacking.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 14:20

There is alots of tdee calculators (that's estimated daily expenditure) so you can put your info into few and see what they say.
I agree with others. 800 long term is miserable as fuck and not particularly heapthy.
I do once a week below 900 because I am simply not hungry on that day and the calories from that go towards day off. Imagining having it every day... Well I wouldn't last 4 days.

Angbunnyboo · 22/02/2021 17:00

TDEE - 3-500. The TDEE calculator will work out your daily expenditure, then adjust the calories down as required.

I've lost 7lb this week on 1900 a day (but I'm a chubster). Don't make yourself miserable.

I'm doing TeamRH where they give you a daily allowance and macros etc and as I say, I've lost 7lbs this week and Ive still been able to eat some crisps and chocolate and cake (not all in one go!)

Oysterbabe · 24/02/2021 07:02

I would say 1200. You're pretty short and don't have masses to lose. My garmin reckons I burn 1615 a day before exercise and I aim for an average of 1400.

supercee · 24/02/2021 08:09

I've put my measurements into a macro calculator online and it came out as 1600 calories for me to lose weight. That sounds loads. I am 5'3 and 10 stone, which is loads for my frame and the heaviest I've ever been. I like being around 8.5. All my weight is around my middle.

Was thinking of sticking to around 1200. I have the Fast 800 books but find loads of the recipes bland/boring and not sure if I want to sign up to Team RH. Ordered the Pinch of Nom book too so hopefully I'll start to see a difference soon.
