Nutracheck 1400 too many?

Hi
I had a baby 12 weeks ago and decided to try and get back into some sort of shape - my bmi is 28 and I've about 1-1.5 stone to lose to get back to my "healthy" weight (that includes some of the weight I didn't lose after my other dc).
I've joined Nutracheck for a free 7 day trial and really like the app & layout BUT it's giving me an allowance of 1400 calories (the idea is 1200 food then to earn another 200 from exercise) this is the lowest the programme goes - says that 1400 is sustainable rather than a crash diet.

My worry is I'm short & in my 30s every other calorie counter has suggested 1200 calories to lose any weight - my tdee is 1554 (inactive - I'm on my feet all day running after dc but no excercise classes etc plus can't do much strenuous exercise just yet as it was my 3rd csection & im still a bit tender & loose lol) which means to lose 1lb per week I need a deficit of 500 a day so 1054 calories... this is so much lower than the nytracheck target and I honestly don't know how I could get by only eating 1000 calories without being totally miserable.

Basically has anyone on the shorter side tried the nutracheck 1400 strategy and had any success? Or should I go to mfp and stick to 1200 - I don't want to pay for an app like nutracheck if I'm not even going to lose any weight... hmm

Hi, I use nutracheck and have a 1200 cal allowance. I wonder if it puts you at 1400 because you’re a new mum? Are you bf?

If you go into the green square top right and down to diary preferences, and change daily totals to combined that should sort it Smile

I also have a Nutricheck goal of 1200, I'm short and am v inactive. So it will give that target in certain circumstances. You're being too hard on yourself though imo. I gave myself 1 year to lose weight after giving birth, first 6 months I didn't try at all, just gradually tried to be a bit more active. You're not very overweight and your bidy needs time to recover!

You can easily just change your target, you don't have to go by the one nutracheck gives you. I changed mine from 1400 to 1200.

Are you sure your TDEE is 1500? Is that your BMR?

CRbear · 24/02/2021 10:52

Do you not think that even if you only lose 1/2 lb a week but it’s sustainable that it would lead to a better outcome? If you don’t think 1200 is sustainable for you, then you’re better off choosing a higher amount and losing slower but being able to stick to it. There is no quick fix, and starting and giving up multiple times takes time too. Also just try for a couple of weeks and see what works for you. I eat more than my TDEE -500 should allow and still lose 1lb a week. Be consistent, collect the data and make adjustments as you go. Good luck!

Thanks everyone , I stuck to the 1400 with a 200 min exercise target this week and even with going over for Pancake Tuesday and my period starting on the day I weighed in I managed to lose 1lb so I'm happy with that. Hopefully it keeps up, I'm happy with 1lb a week loss and 1400 seems much more reasonable than 1200 even though on a couple of days I didn't manage to eat the whole 1400.

A dietitian would insist on 1400, as you can't get all of your nutrients in 1200. That's what I was told by one.

Sure you can. What's the difference in nutrients made by 200 calories? Some people's bodies may be adequately fuelled on 1200 calories if they are very small and not very active, but most will not. Nothing to do with nutrients.
