Weight loss ‘prediction’ in MFP

I’m newish to MFP (used it years ago but am back on it again) and I put in I wanted to lose a kg a week. It has told me to do1200 calories. Sooo hungry but fine. Getting a little out of that every day when I finish the day and it gives you the ‘if you eat like this for 5 weeks you will weigh this much’ that my prediction has me losing 4kg not 5. Have I done something wrong??
I’ve been coming in just under at 1100 and something each day. And I know i won’t always lose a kg even if a follow it etc but it just annoys me.

I don’t listen to MFP recommendations or predictions.

1100 is too low to be sustainable especially if you are active.

How much do you have to lose? A kg a week is a lot to lose every week unless you have a significant amount to go. It’s 2.2lbs in old money.

Recalculate are 1lb a week loss max and stick to that.

1100-1200 kcals per day long term isn’t going to happen unless you have iron willpower, no emotional attachment to food and enjoy feeling hungry.

In regards to MFP - it’s never going to be spot on. It’s an algorithm that uses averages and isn’t in tune to your body. Think of it as a tool to track calories only. Use the number it gives you as a starting point and adjust as you learn what you can manage/what you can consume and still get a loss.

@Fitfab and @BasinHaircut
Thanks for the responses I did know it was an algorithm and not tuned into bodies but just thought if that’s what it tells you you can lost for those calories that’s what it should say. But you are right it really upset last time when I would write that down and never actually had lost that amount.

I’ve got 20lbs I want to lose at a minimum. Ideally I would like to be less than that as I think I would need less to fit into all my clothes again but I’m not sure it’s sustainable so aiming for higher Sad

I’m not active at all lately as have been shielding but spoke to dr yesterday and they are happy for me to go out for walks now as long as I’m very careful.

I like the you will weight ... at the end of the day it is motivating. I moved to nutracheck a few weeks ago and miss this (so much other love for nutracheck though)

I think 2.2lb very optimistic.

If is understand correctly this is the maths behind it:

1lb of fat is 3500 calories. To lose that in a week, That's a 500 day deficit from your Total Daily Energy expenditure. 2lb is 1000 a day. You calculate it by searching TDEE if you are interested. 2.2 another 100 Deficit

So that would be 942 cals a days for me using my weight height and age, which is not possible and probably why I haven't lost weight as going way over. So, I am sticking to 1200 a day and up to 1500 one day to allow for a treat meal.

I got an magnetic exercise bike and do 30 -40 minutes a day. I am 4stone overweight and this is a massive achievement for me. I'm going to try a Lesley sansome walking video.

I find that mfp won't go below 1200 calories. If I say I want to lose 1lb a week, it says eat 1200 calories a day. If I say I want to lose 2lb a week, it says eat 1200 calories a day. So I guess that it is giving you 1200 calories a day because that's the lowest that it will go and its prediction is that you won't lose 1kg a week on 1200 calories - your loss will be slightly less. I think it won't let you eat so little that you lose 1kg a week.
