Have been following multiple (very inspirational) dieting/healthy eating threads on here for a while and started doing 1000 cals a day about a month ago to get myself kick started.

In that time I have discovered PBFit peanut butter powder which I love! Also slimfast caramel bars for when I need something sweet but can't just wolf down a mars bar. Thought Jerusalem artichokes were a godsend when I first saw and tasted them, won't be doing that again! Blush Grin

Has anyone else discovered any new fantastic healthy treats or alternatives that have really hit the spot?

I dont know if these will be magical reveals for anyone else, but eating cucumber with pickles has made me eat lots of it. I've also forced myself to eat salmon for the first time and found that I really like it, especially with roast garlic.

And Butterkist sweet popcorn, I could just eat it forever!

Now that sounds like something useful to munch on between meals, what sort of pickles do you mean? Like gherkins?

I love salmon with a spoonful of honey and a spoonful of soy sauce poured over before you grill it!

Pots of sugar free jelly at only eight calories have been a big boon for me. They take the edge off my sugar cravings.

Prosecco is only 100 cals a glass. Thought it would be more and now seems like an acceptable Friday night treat to have a couple.

Pink and white wafers

Creme caramels are a lush 100 calorie pud

Courgettes!
They make amazing spaghetti or noodles but mixed with actual or noodles because otherwise it's bit meh. They also make amazing crisps!
They are lovely grilled, fried, baked. Just any way you can make them.
I bulk up loads of stuff with them now.
But the oven crisps thing was really quite a (tasty) surprise.

Fibre one chocolate cake bars. 90 cals but so rich and chocolatey

I'm taking notes here! I do baked kale sometimes with a bit of salt & 5-spice. Gives me something to munch on watching telly!

Courgettes are fab, I love them baked in breadcrumbs!

Courgette parmesan. Oh so so so good.

Is the kale then something similar to seaweed in consistency? It sounds interesting!

NoImNotEntertained · 04/06/2020 21:46

Yes, it tastes similar to the seaweed you get from the Chinese. I use organic kale because it comes in bigger leaves rather than chopped into tiny pieces but any kale is fine. Cut off or fish out all the big stalks so you just have the leaves.

Rub a tiny bit (probably less than a teaspoon) of olive oil in my hands and rub it all over the leaves. Sprinkle a pinch of salt, a good shake of Chinese 5 spice and a tiny bit of sugar (or whole earth granulated sweetener seems to work too)!

Bake in the oven on a really low heat (around 80-100) for about 45 mins to an hour.

Going to try the Fibre 1 bars. I had the Pulsin choc peanut ones which are lovely but they're 155 cals so a bit too punchy for most days. Creme caramel is a great one, I used to love those as a kid! They're going on the shopping list!

Thank you!

I also love the fibre one bars. I bought them because the plan I’m following has quite a high fibre goal and thought they might help. I don’t usually like anything ‘diet’ but these are really lovely.

I haven’t actually had this for ages so haven’t priced it up calorie wise but a nigella recipe I love is courgettes sliced thinly, griddled and then covered with salt pepper and lemon juice. I might make these at the weekend with some spicy chicken breast and a bit of halloumi too.
