Hi all,

Long time voyeur and commenter but first post ever.. Shock

all lighthearted Smile

What are you best tips for losing weights? A thing you truly swear by?

I’ve recently lost 10kg, hoping to lose 5 more and mine are:

  • 2L water, everyday, no excuses! Does wonders for my skin and energy.
  • Apple cider vinegar, a shot daily, maybe its a placebo but I don’t crave sugar as much and have fewer digestive problems.
  • Run, I detest it, I loathe every moment but I really do think keeping it up consistently is honestly the only think that’s helped me lose the weight, I’ve calories controlled on much less before but the running has really helped!

But can you? Because a couple of drinks and a bigger meal can easily set you back an extra 500 - 800 calories. If you then have a nice starter, dessert, and an extra drink that would be quite a lot. How many cals do you shave each day to have a large enough 'credit' at the weekend? Sounds brilliant if it works :-)

About 200 a day, sometimes more, really depends on hunger. If I am not hungry, I don't force it so may just have small light meal. Depends on what's planned for the day. It brings me close to 3000 for the day. That's a plenty😁 The thing is that you will, at least I am, still often make better choices. Even though it's a free day, I still have lighter salad for lunch and just small snack mid afternoon. Basically, most of that 3000 is for the evening. I am losing and I am not slipping nor am I ever feeling guilty. It's ok to want a pizza. It's ok to eat a pizza. It's just not particularly ok to have it every day, which is reasonable conclusion 😂. That's it.

Oh and not using terms like "cheat day" helps. I am not cheating anything or anyone. I am just bloody eating what I looked forward to for few days.🤷🏻

I weigh every day and log jt because I get anxious about a weekly weigh in.

I aim for 1200 calories counted via MFP. Will go to 1400 or 1500 if I’m extra hungry.

Increase protein. This has been so helpful.

Keep meals simple. This has also been so helpful. Sometimes I have pasta and cottage cheese for lunch. Or veggie beefless tips with brocolli.

Lowish carb but not keto.

Halo top ice cream is very good!!

Eat things you enjoy.

Think about maintenance and how you will manage it.

Definitely agree with someone who said avoid snacking just because you fancy it, hold off for 20 minutes to check if you're just giving into a compulsion.

Intermittent fasting.

Low carb.

Great thread

I found 1200 calories with MFP too challenging, but 1300-1400 is much more doable, and sustainable without feeling weak and wobbly. And still enough to lose weight, for me.

Small portions of everything apart from leafy veg.

Use a small plate or bowl.

Lots of herbal tea.

No butter.

Very very cautious with cheese - or replace it with 'eat lean' grated cheese for toppings.

I measure my snacks into a bowl at the start of the day, and log them in MFP. Then I always have them to hand, and I'm not tempted to open the biscuit tin. My snack bowl has loads of sugar snap peas, raw green beans, cherry toms, a few grapes, nuts and seeds - all in total below c250 cals. Lovely.

Take a test to see what you burn in a day from doing nothing and a test to work out how many calories you should eat. 1200 is too little - unless you’re short and are full from that.
If you overeat don’t stress too much
Try to buy healthier snacks
Make sure your plate is at least half veg
Flavour is key!!!
Water and exercise every day. Don’t stress if you don’t meet your target
Try not to believe the fad diets - they’re a load of rubbish 😅

I can't keep too much fruit in the house or I'll inhale the lot.

Chloe1973 · 22/10/2020 22:22

Drink lots of water
Eat lots of salad and veg with meals
1400 cals daily ( works for me)
Power walking outside or on a treadmill for 30/40 min when you can
I do drink diet soda sorry ( they fill me up and help with sugar cravings)
Lots of protein
I love carbs and have never ever reduced them in order to lose weight- I lost 3 stones in three months and ate bread and chocolate everyday ( nimble bread but still bread ) .
Find a hobby you love to pass the time (when you would normally be snacking) My hobbies are reading and posting on Mumsnet ;-)
